The Uncommon Players

The Uncommon Players A new Common Players activity, seeking to share skills between local theatremakers.

Uncommon Players are a new group of local Theatremakers, directed by Anthony Richards, lowering the carbon footprint of theatre art by finding top-quality local ingredients. The group is an open mix of theatre artists, mostly based in South Devon, who are keen to explore styles of theatre and performance. Some make a living from performance and arts activities, and some do other things to make a l

iving. Curiosity and energy unites the team; Directed by Common Players’ Creative Associate Anthony Richards.

We are very sorry to announce that we must cancel the upcoming tour of Endgame. Due to personal reasons, one of the cast has had to withdraw from the production and we have insufficient time to prepare another cast member to be part of the team. This is a great shame for us, and our promoters who booked us to perform in good faith, and we are gutted to have to do this.

If you have purchased tickets, please contact your venue to gain a refund.

Our director, Polly Whitfield, has written this week's rehearsal diary.

"We have done Endgame as a silent film, as an operatic score and with complete exhausting dramatic inflection to a dull monotone delivery. We have played around with status, music, stillness and different levels on energy within the actors. I am starting to feel excited, I feel we are moving closer to a very wonderful Clov, Hamm, Nagg and Nell."

I woke this morning to find this email from an audience member who had seen our first night at The Cygnet yesterday evening:

'I had a gut feeling several weeks ago that this production was not to be missed and I was right. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone in the cast was spot-on and Anthony Richards and Jake Sullivan were superb. This was not my first encounter with the Rattigan's work. Many years ago I saw John Mills in Separate Tables at the Theatre Royal Newcastle. I don't know whether it was the immediacy of a small theatre but your production of The Browning Version made more of an impact. As I said to several people on leaving the theatre tonight, "first class!"'

Thank you for taking the trouble to email the company with you thoughts. I am so glad we appear to be doing justice to this excellent script.
