Do you like a transformation? The before and after? 🏠 🛠️

We are often asked by guests whether we bought our place as it is, or whether we had the work done to create the holiday homes. Here is the answer - back in 2020 when we were all in the midst of Covid we had our garage converted into our second holiday let, The Burrow.

I still find it a bit mad to think it was just a big garage, and is now a very homely apartment which has seen many guests stay over the last 6 years. I do however miss the storage we once had - think bikes and tents in bedrooms on our side of the house.

Podcasts are my friend. 🎙️ 📻 A couple of years ago I discovered them, and when you work alone cleaning holiday homes for hours a day they are brilliant company. No talking back or awkward office chat for me!

Do you recommend any? I like to be informed, so tend to opt for news, politics, investigative and documentary type of podcasts. Would love more of a travel one but can't seem to find any? Here are some of my go-to ones.....

In the last couple of days, it has definitely started to feel more on the cusp of Autumn. Darker mornings, slightly darker evenings and definitely fresher air. And newsflash - we have even had some decent rain after about two months of barely a drip. Maybe the lawn will come back from the dead?

Met a couple of friends this week, and we all concur that we are now looking forward to getting the autumnal clothes out of the wardrobe.

Chatting to the guests in The Hutch last night while they were on the deck, and he says “Oh, there are the sheep”. I thought he meant across the fields but no, about 6 of them in the bottom of our garden. They ran off, but one remains this morning. 🐑

What is your preference when visiting a new city? Is it cultural highlights? Sampling the local eateries? Retail therapy?

As many guests know, although The Hutch and The Burrow are in the countryside, a short 10-15 min drive will take you into Exeter. We visited last week and after some shopping, we had a picnic on cathedral green overlooking Exeter Cathedral and then had a quick whistlestop visit to the RAMM (Royal Albert Memorial Museum), which is free. We said we definitely need to go back to the RAMM for a longer visit, not just before you realise the parking is about to run out!

👶 🧒 Travelling with little ones? Just crunching the numbers and 70% of guests staying in The Burrow in July and August have stayed, or staying, with a child.

We offer a travel cot or fold out bed (for a child up to the age of 10) for free, if you stay in The Burrow. Travelling with kids can often involve a lot of paraphernalia, but we try to lighten the load with bedding, highchair, cutlery/plates etc and kids books and toys all provided. With the added benefit of The Burrow being on one level, there is no need to worry about a stairgate either. There is even a kids play area 3 mins walk away at Longdown Village Hall.

Billy was all prepared for the eclipse this evening. Good view from Longdown, near the church - definitely went a bit darker and there were longer shadows.

We had 3 special guests stay in The Burrow last night. Our daughter turns 11 today so she, and two friends checked into The Burrow for a one night stay. A karaoke session down at Exeter Quay was followed with KFC on the patio at The Burrow, doing their nails, gossiping and chatting all things K-Pop. Happy 11th birthday, Trixie.

How now brown cow?! Think I was being watched while walking the beagles earlier today!

Felt slightly like an autumnal morning today. Bit cooler, which was very welcome, but there are so many dry looking fields. Still some lovely views within a 20 min walk of The Hutch and The Burrow.

Have a guess which country most of our recent visitors have come from? The UK? 🇬🇧Netherlands? 🇳🇱Germany? 🇩🇪Belgium? 🇧🇪 Austria? 🇦🇹

We had a lovely German family stay in The Burrow a couple of weeks ago. I was delighted to receive a message from them last week asking to rebook for next July. We must be doing something right!
