The real treat is coming back.

After a winter day out, whether you’ve been wandering through one of the Peak District’s villages, stopping for coffee and cake in a cosy café, or browsing the Christmas markets for a few presents, there is something lovely about knowing you have somewhere peaceful to come back to.

At Hollow Brook, the lights are on, the cottage is warm and the log fire is waiting.

Shoes off. Feet up. Perhaps a glass of w**e, a book, or simply time to sit and talk about the day.

Outside, the fields are quiet and the evening has settled in.

That’s one of the things I love most about a winter break here.

Lovely places to go during the day, and somewhere calm to come home to afterwards.

A few extra days away give you time to properly slow down.

Time for a walk through the autumn woods, with fallen leaves beneath your feet. Time for coffee and cake in Eyam, before wandering back to your cottage for a quiet evening.

And time for a day with no plans at all, just a book, a warm drink and the changing light across the fields.

Autumn, Through the Open Doors

Some mornings, it’s lovely to let the outside in.

Open the doors at Pretty Wood, settle on the sofa with your morning tea and look out across the meadow. There’s a freshness to the air, and if you’re lucky, deer grazing in the distance.

You might head out for a walk, or stay a little longer, watching the fields while your tea slowly cools.

As the afternoon light fades, close the doors and light the log fire. We’ll have complimentary firewood ready for those cosy evenings, when all you need is a comfortable seat, a good book and time together.
