Unusual visitors tonight!

When the fire service offered to carry out a safety check, I was expecting one or two people in a car - not a whole team arriving in a fire engine!

I was as excited as a little kid, and the cats were just as curious. Our kitten, Sam, even tried to climb into their bag.

It was lovely to meet them, and reassuring to talk through how things work on site, and make sure we’re set up as safely as possible for our guests, as well as in our home. It's also good to know the fire engine fits up the driveway!

A big thank you to for coming out. We appreciate you taking the time to help us make sure the worst never happens. Much as we enjoyed seeing you tonight, we hope never to *need* a fire engine in our driveway!

We’ve just had some lovely news to brighten our week: Cottages. com have given us their Customer Choice Award 2026, for consistently excellent guest feedback. Since opening, just over 18 months ago, we’ve been so grateful for the positive feedback our guests have shared.

That feedback has also recently led to us becoming Airbnb Superhosts and being invited to join the Booking. com Genius programme.

It means a lot to us, because our whole team work really hard to make this a place where people feel comfortable, relaxed, and well looked-after, and it's great to see that effort recognised.

Most of our beds can be set up as a king or superking or split into two singles, and we love the flexibility that gives us for different kinds of stays.

This week we’ve got multiple units booked for a group attending a conference, so single beds all round. It’s the first time the Bothy downstairs has ever been set up as twins, and only the second and third times for the Treehouse and Boathouse, respectively. We’re pretty pleased with how the units look in 'singles mode'!

A year ago today we welcomed our first paying guests to the site. We were very lucky that those guests were amazing, and made hosting them a genuine pleasure. We've met many more lovely people since then - almost 500 guests, across over 160 bookings.

This past month has been extremely hectic, with many short stays (mostly people visiting the Edinburgh Festivals) resulting in August getting on for twice the number of changeovers as July, and the same number of 'same-day changeovers' (where a unit is vacated in the morning and we have a few hours to turn it around ready for a new group coming in later the same day) as the previous three months combined. It's made me glad that we've had a year of learning leading up to this!

The past year has been a steep learning curve, and I've got a lot better at making beds and folding laundry than I was a year ago; indeed than I ever thought I would be. To all the guests who've been a delight to host, and even to those who left us with a bit more cleaning to do, thank you for making our first year a successful one. We already know that many of you are coming back (or have even been back more than once already!) for another stay, and hope to see many more of you again, as well as meeting lots of new guests.
