Leave Trewena and you can be at the Helford in under fifteen minutes. Our favourite autumn walk there drops through the woods to Durgan, follows the river past Glendurgan and Trebah as the valleys turn, and finishes at the Ferryboat Inn at Helford Passage. Three miles, and a pint with a river view at the end. Route on the blog.

As the nights draw in and we start pulling on our favourite jumper before heading out, it's time to start looking for places that give off that cosyness vibe. In my opinion Cornwall's fishing villages do this with gusto. Cadgwith in October is cosyness personified. Fishing boats pulled up on the shingle, thatched cottages stepping down to the cove, and a pint inside the Cadgwith Cove Inn with the sea right there.

C***r pressing season is a great time to visit Healey's Cyder Farm near Newquay. Not the worst excuse to taste your way through the c***rs, apple juices and Cornish Rattler in the tasting room. An easy day out from Trewena, and a good excuse to take a bottle back to the cottage. Our guide on the blog.

There's a point in autumn when an evening in stops being a fallback and becomes the best part of the day.

Little Avalon was made for times like these. Finish your afternoon walk as the light begins to go, get the wood burner going, and settle in with a glass of something and nowhere else to be. The rain can do what it likes outside. Built for two, and at its best on nights like these.

Mornings at Little Avalon. Coffee in the garden, the beams and the quiet, and no particular reason to rush anywhere. It's the most traditional of our cottages, built for two, and people tend to fall for it.

If you only do one day trip from here, make it the Lizard. It's the drive Rich sends everyone on: Kynance Cove, Lizard Point (the actual bottom of Britain), lunch at Cadgwith, and Roskilly's for ice cream on the way home. A full, brilliant day. We've written the whole route up.

Three acres to roam and relax in away from it all. That's what we offer at Trewena. There's a wildflower meadow that hums all summer, a little patch of woods, and a fire pit that's seen a lot of good evenings. Guests often tell us they came for Cornwall and ended up spending half their stay just out here. We understand it completely.
