We spent a day volunteering with , one of our community partners, helping to care for young trees at one of their woodland restoration projects near Gweek. Last year, we donated a share of our revenue to support their work, so it was a real pleasure to spend some time on the ground and see what they’re doing first-hand.
We headed to the site alongside fellow volunteers from Studio Gather, Forever Cornwall and members of the local community, carrying our supplies of wooden stakes, hammers, water and precious pasties.
The project was Plant One’s very first planting site, now six years old. We counted how many of the young saplings had survived the winter, helping the team understand where more trees may need to be planted, and fitted protective collars around the new growth.
Along the way, we learned more about Cornwall’s native tree species and the clever ways nature works, including how brambles can act as nurseries, sheltering young trees as they become established.
It was also a reminder that nature can’t be rushed, highlighting how urgently we need to act to protect the planet. These small trees have decades of growing ahead of them, but the care and work Plant One is doing today will help shape Cornwall’s landscapes for years to come.
Supporting Plant One is one of the ways we try to give something back to the landscape that makes Cornwall so special. When you choose to holiday with us, you’re not only giving yourself time to unwind and reconnect with the outdoors, but you’re also helping us support projects that care for and protect it.
We’re proud to support Plant One and the work they’re doing to create and care for more woodland across Cornwall.
Give a follow, find out more about their work and, if you can, support what they’re doing.
