Investing in play areas in Filey
Three play areas in Filey are to be refurbished at a cost of £400,000.
The sites at Glen Gardens, Copse Hill and Filey Country Park will be improved as part of our exciting investment programme for the town.
This is in addition to our plans to build a new skatepark that we announced last month.
Earlier this month, our cabinet gave permission for us to start the process to tender for a contractor to carry out the work.
As reported in March’s edition of this newsletter we’re working with people in Filey and the town council to develop a master plan for investment.
Last year we carried out a survey to better understand people’s priorities for Filey and this has been followed-up with further consultation meetings.
This week alone we’ve been asking school students what they’d like money spent on.
So far, four themes have emerged from this work. We’ve given them the headings of Active Filey, Attractive Filey, Accessible Filey and Resilient Filey.
These could lead to changing the way urban spaces are designed, improving public areas, updating or building new infrastructure, regeneration and supporting the voluntary sector.
On Saturday (28 May), we’ve arranged a consultation event at the Band Stand in Crescent Gardens from 10am to 1pm and then near the children’s rides on the Promenade from 1pm to 4pm.
We hope to publish a final version of the Filey masterplan in July.
