As Filey Food Festival is coming up, thought we would share with you some places that we like to eat when visiting Arthur’s Retreat. All establishments have been quality checked and approved by Lucky the dog. All are dog friendly or have dog -friendly areas.

The Royal Oak - A 3 minute drive from Arthur’s Retreat. Homemade pub food, and the Sunday carvery is amazing. Indoor soft play and outdoor kids’ play area.

Byways - A 15 minute drive from Arthur’s Retreat. Chain pub, excellent value for money and offers “blue light” discount. Beer garden and outdoor kids‘ play area.

The Farrier - An 11 minute drive from Arthur’s Retreat. A special dining experience, offering modern and traditional dishes with an emphasis on local produce. A must try for a special treat.

Playdale Farm Park is a 15 minute drive from Arthur’s Retreat. The park has a large indoor play area, adventure trail, animal barn, interactive paddocks, cafe and gift shop to name a few. The park has daily guinea pig, chick handling sessions and a large range of animals you can hand feed from goats to alpacas.

If you haven‘t got your summer break sorted, when booking more than 28 days ahead you will automatically save 5% on holidays of 3 nights or more all year round when booking direct (fixed price deals already include the discount). We have availability in August week commencing the 3rd and 24th.

You can now visit for less thanks to the governments new Great British Summer Savings scheme. In an effort to make family days out more affordable, the government has temporarily reduced the VAT rate from to 5% on admissions to family days out from now until the 1st of September, as well as qualifying children's meals. This means we've dropped our entry price (and children's meals in the cafe) to make sure you get the savings!

We are also launching a summer pass that can be used for unlimited visits between the 18th July and 1st September 2026 for just £33 per person.

All our guests receive a complimentary digital guidebook created by our fantastic booking agent. This includes lots of information about Arthur’s Retreat and details about the local area. It also includes the tide times, which is really useful if you are planning a walk on the beach into Filey, we have learnt from our mistake but I suppose the bus was fine 🚌

Today Lucky has been exploring Glen Gardens in Filey. This is a great local place to visit. Large park with ample play equipment, dog friendly cafe, ice cream kiosk, football pitch/basketball court, skate park, picnic area, boating lake with pedalos, trampoline and crazy golf. If still not sold, the park has access to the White Lodge Terrace where there is a bar van (dogs are allowed in the garden). It is a short walk into Filey through the park and there are steps down to the sea front. Ample parking and the park is dog friendly.

One of my favourite things to do when visiting the cottage is taking our dog (Lucky) to the Coble Landing in Filey for his morning walk on the beach. Here he is looking out to sea earlier today!

Handy guide of things to do locally if on holiday in Filey with the kids.

There is also plenty to do onsite at The Bay Holiday Village when staying at Arthur’s Retreat. We have direct beach access,
indoor heated pool, arcade, numerous boules courts, tennis court, playground, gym, access to costal walk path and table tennis, to name a few.

The six week holidays are starting to fill up but we still have some availability at Arthur’s Retreat in August, week commencing the 3rd and 24th.
