🏖️ THE FILEY HOME OF BILLY BUTLIN
Billy Butlin had ambitious plans to open a third Butlin’s holiday camp in Filey, but the outbreak of the Second World War brought the project to an abrupt halt.
Rather than abandon the idea, Butlin persuaded the Ministry of Defence to complete the Filey camp, along with two further sites at Ayr and Pwllheli. During the war, the camps were used as training facilities.
After the war, Butlin reclaimed the sites and transformed them into some of Britain’s best-known holiday destinations.
🏡 The house pictured was once owned by Billy Butlin himself, sitting at the foot of the cliffs below what is now Primrose Valley.
The property underwent extensive renovations and was most recently sold in 2023 for £2.05 million.
A fascinating piece of Filey and Butlin’s history! 🏖️
