Spiritually, the ocean symbolizes the subconscious, infinite wisdom, and the mysterious depths of life, representing both immense power and calm, nurturing peace. It is often seen as a primal force for transformation, cleansing, and healing, connecting the earthly and divine realms, and in some traditions, unity and oneness. The vastness and unpredictability of the ocean mirror the complexities of human experience, with its depths hiding both danger and treasures.

Where does the word ‘Toadstool’ come from?

Historically, the term “toadstool” has been used to refer to mushrooms that are particularly colourful or unusual in shape, hinting at danger or toxicity. The Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria) is perhaps the most famous example. With its vibrant red cap speckled with white, the Fly Agaric has long been associated with magic, mystery, and even poison. This association has extended to other strikingly coloured, cap-and-stem mushrooms, which often become labelled as “toadstools” due to their exotic appearance and sometimes toxic properties.

One interesting origin theory for the word “toadstool” traces it to Germanic roots: “tod” (death) and “stuhl” (stool or seat), giving it a dark, foreboding connotation as a “stalk of death.” Another interpretation, rooted more in folklore, suggests that toadstools were so named not because toads might sit upon them, but because people believed they grew from the excrement of toads—creatures often regarded with suspicion and seen as venomous. This association between toads and fungi has reinforced the view of toadstools as potentially harmful or untrustworthy, contrasting with the more neutral, benign implications of the word “mushroom.” - Wild Food People

Hello & Welcome to the new bridge, Merlin’s Wood Lavington Common.

A bridge symbolizes transition, connection, and the liminal space between two states, such as the past and future, two worlds, or different emotional states. It represents human ingenuity and aspiration to overcome divides, embody hope and progress, and serve as a link between individuals, cultures, and places. Bridges also signify a journey, a passage to the unknown, and the profound meaning forged in the act of moving forward.

Sussex by Lily Audra

In England brown birds make dusty circles on overcast days,
The ground blankets itself in moss and cappuccino leaves.
So when the sharp lemony sun fills the breeze with warmth,
And white cotton clouds punctuate the sky and my eyelids,
It feels like home

Despite wild cats only using meows as kittens, bengal cats can be very vocal. Usually, they make cute chirps and trills, but they also howl.

Bengal cats don’t hesitate to use their loud meow when bored to get you to play with them, but they will also use meowing to get your attention.

In this picture Queso, our Bengal-cross has just come in from the rain. As she approaches me (in bed) Queso voices her need for warmth, love and attention. Her soggy-self snuggles next to me just long enough to dry-off, before moving to take over the rest of the bed.

Stepping out in nature, something happens to me;

Merging into a beautiful world, set free;

Tensions simply melt and float away;
And my mind can wander, wonder and be.

The more I walk the more delights I see;
The trees, the leaves, the flowers, the birds, the bees;

A place where harmony exists in perfect grace;

A sanctuary for heart and soul, a sacred place.

Where you can feel the air, the wind, the breeze;

Connect to the earth, the rocks, the plants and trees;

Listening to the wildlife, birds and river springs;

Giving praise to the wonders Mother Nature brings.

Nowhere brings such happiness inside;
The calm, the buzz of life, the beauty is a balm;

The gift of wild with birds on feathered wings;

Nature is the source of life for every living thing.

I wish I hadn’t sold mine! Modern classic cars, sometimes called “Youngtimers,” are mainstream cars sold from the 1980s to the 2010s. They have gained appreciation for their historical significance, performance, or unique character, often before achieving classic status. Distinguished by their ability to evoke a sense of emotion and nostalgia from their era. I wish I hadn’t sold mine!
