Recent (light-hearted) article about another Nessie spotting
Do say: That’s a duck pic.
Don’t say: I preferred the dick pic.

Nessie enthusiasts have been getting excited by a holidaying couple’s film of a mysterious ripple in the loch

Another trip up on the sleeper via Fort William, where the Hogwarts express was just leaving. Also a dolphin watching boat trip from Cromarty (no dolphins but lots of oil rigs) and a visit to Portree on the isle of Skye on the way back

There are two routes up to Gruinyards by train, through Edinburgh to Inverness and via Glasgow to Fort William. I'd always wanted to do the second of these since noticing the train track pencilled along the side of hills between Loch Lomond and Glen Coe. For much of the route the road (A82, see earlier post) and the train are within sight of each other but it is even more spectacular by train, doubly so when there is snow on the ground.
I was travelling with my very good friend and colleague, and even better architect, Simon Hurst. While there we made the most of the snow, going up Ben Nevis on the cable car, making snow angels and some spirited tobogganing by a couple of lochs. Some things never lose their appeal.

Nice article about winter train journeys - Glasgow to Fort William is number three. The top picture is wonderful as well but that's in Austria.

From a steam railway in Yorkshire to hotels on wheels in the Alps, sit back and enjoy the show outside the train window

Nice article in the Guardian about holiday rentals and the importance of a well equipped kitchen - in particular the cooking knives, and I totally agree. He suggests taking your own sharpener but at Gruinyards we have a good set of kitchen knives and while there is no guarantee that they will be sharp there should be two sharpeners so at least you can do something about it - https://www.theguardian.com/food/2019/jul/11/dream-holiday-rental-house-decent-kitchen-knives-jay-rayner?utm

They’re never sharp, the coffee mugs are too small – and as for those glass chopping boards…

Travelled up by train to Glasgow and then rental car (from the airport) up the A82. Think this is my favourite way of getting there.
Especially when stopping off at Falloch Falls, just north of Loch Lomond for a quick swim.
Short visit but while at the Abbey we did archery, enjoyed the pool and built a dam across the river Tarff.
