Our award-winning Victorian cottage, Our Place in Portland Holiday Home, on Portland sleeps up to 6, welcomes up to two dogs, and is just moments from the South West Coast Path and Jurassic Coast. With sea views, an enclosed garden and plenty of thoughtful touches, it's a lovely base for exploring Dorset.

🪣 What do all these beach toys have in common?

Many of them were left behind on local beaches.

Each year, countless plastic buckets, spades and toys are abandoned after a day by the sea. If they’re not collected, they can become litter and eventually break down into smaller fragments that may harm our marine environment.

That’s why we’re delighted to be taking part in a pilot project with Weymouth & Portland Marine Litter Project.

The toys in our new ‘Borrow Bucket’ have been collected from local beaches, cleaned, sorted and given a second life for guests to enjoy during their stay.

Instead of buying new toys for a few days at the beach, guests can simply borrow what they need and return it for the next family to enjoy.

It’s a simple idea, but one that helps:

🌊 Keep beaches cleaner
🌊 Create happy holiday memories

We’re proud to support this local initiative and would like to say a huge thank you to Weymouth & Portland Marine Litter Project for including us in the trial.

Still smiling after waking up to another 10/10 Booking.com review ⭐️

It means such a lot when guests take the time to leave lovely feedback after their stay at OPIP. We really do put so much care into creating a cosy, relaxing base for exploring Portland and Dorset.

This loft bedroom has become one of our favourite spaces in the cottage too, especially with those exposed brick details and sea views across the rooftops.

A huge thank you to all our guests for your support, recommendations and kind words.

This was such a lovely thing to read this morning.
Apparently the comments and nominations for OPIP sparked discussions about creating a dedicated Accommodation Provider category for future awards.

As a small independent holiday cottage, that honestly means the world. Thank you to everyone who supported us, stayed with us, recommended us and voted 💛

One of our winners in the recent 2026 awards Our Place in Portland Holiday Home was nominated with so many glowing comments that it gave us the idea of a new category next year in most of our awards particularly the seaside and more rural ones - Accommodation Provider.
We thought that could cover so many businesses in our beautiful tourist hot spot of Dorset. Including holiday cottages, Airbnb's, pubs with rooms, hotels, B & B's, camping sites, guest houses, caravan and holiday parks, glamping sites etc. Basically any business that offers a place to rest your weary head after a day of enjoying fun and great food😁👍
