Did you see our beautiful Island on last night? Looks like a lot of work going on for biodiversity and encouraging wildlife. Well worth the watch. Visit Isle of Wight The Garlic Farm Ventnor Botanic Garden National Trust Isle of Wight We are working hard here at Farringford Estate with a 'no mow' area, planting of Yellow Rattle and dead hedge building. We are offering a 'bug hunt' during the Isle of Wight Biosphere Reserve festival to see what we have here too. It will be very interesting to see what species we have and to then explore what we can do to encourage more on the wider estate.

When our visitors comment on the wallpaper during a house tour we often suggest they have a look at this blog on our website. The wallpapers at Farringford Estate are truly beautiful and in the Victorian times a lot of time and effort went into not only designing and hanging the wallpapers but they also sometimes took it with them to their next home! Look out for the original samples found during the restoration on your next visit.

In Tennyson's time a good wallpaper became a statement of taste, and also class, almost directly reflective of the people who occupied the rooms.

Do you know any children who would love to come and explore the grounds at Farringford Estate to learn a bit about nature and how to do a bug hunt? Share this post and bring them along.

Take a look at the Isle of Wight Biosphere Reserve festival events to see when we are offering the opportunity for primary children to do a bug hunt in the grounds... on the days we are open ( up until 4.30pm).

If they don't want to 'bug hunt' you can take them on our nature trail instead.

Tennyson was a great believer in 'learning through nature' - come and share his philosophy in the beautiful grounds of his former home at Farringford in Freshwater.
