Kitchenettes are now in at our studio apartments above the Harrow. These give guests the option of eating in if they prefer. We’re into the final phase now. The flooring is down, cornice work taking place and painting about to start. Hoping we’ll be open for business in October.

As a Hibs fan I was in awe of the talents of this guy back in the late 80s. A local Gala lad who had a marvellous career in football at club and international level.

Travelling to Galashiels?

🚌 X95 last bus out of Galashiels to Hawick is at 22:50 (excluding Sundays). X62 last bus out of Galashiels to Peebles is at 22.35 (excluding Sundays). Check with Borders Borders for latest travel information.

🚂 We are just a train ride away from Edinburgh. There are up to 32 trains per day from Galashiels to Edinburgh (Waverley). The last train from Galashiels to Edinburgh (Waverley) leaves at 23:23 (excluding Sundays). The average journey time from Galashiels to Edinburgh (Waverley) is 55 minutes. Please check Scotrail for latest travel information.

🚗 MacArts is in the centre of Galashiels, close to the town’s High Street, with a large pay and display car park a couple of minutes walk from the front door. We have space in front of the building for step free access to the building. There is blue badge parking close by.

You may have noticed the old lady looking a little fresher today as the first coats of white and black paint have started to be applied ❤️

Being the custodians of a historic (and well loved) building - built in 1866 - feels both a blessing and a curse at times. The Harrow Inn (shown over the years in these photos) has been a place for the community to gather, pass on stories, laugh, mourn lost friends and family, meet new loves, party and be part of the brilliant community that Gala is.

We realise that not everyone in the town will be happy with what we’ve done with ‘The Harrow’ but you can’t please all the folks all of the time. We’ve invested a lot of our time and money to bring this deserted building back into use and hope the visitors it brings to town will help with the continued regeneration that’s happening in Gala and the Scottish Borders in general.

From Monday the painters will start on the exterior which is tired and dated and will make it a building that will once again proudly pop, in the Gala colours, smack bang in the centre of town. We hope most people will see this a positive step. We hope the investment we’re making in the building will help see it last another 157 years.

We’ve been quiet lately as we’ve been pushing forward with the redevelopment of the 5 serviced apartments above The Harrow (see our Room in the Borders FB to keep up with progress on that).

However we’re now getting to the stage that new flooring will go down next week (we’ll be glad to see the back of the dusty floorboard). Today our team were onsite laying hardboard to make sure we’ve a sound, even surface for the new flooring.
