One of the joys of early summer at Isles of Fleet Retreat is witnessing the abundance of wildlife all around us. 🦌

This beautiful roe doe and her young fawn were spotted quietly grazing in the meadow in front of the retreat, a gentle reminder that we share this special place with some wonderful wild neighbours. 🐝

It's always lovely reading our guests' comments about the wildlife they encounter during their stay. Recent sightings have included hares hopping along the decking, Jimmy and Harvey (our resident donkey's) greeting visitors from the field, Belted Galloway calves finding their feet, lambs in the surrounding fields, and overhead displays from swallows, red kites and sparrowhawks.

The elusive partridge continues to evade the camera though—despite making regular appearances and disappearing just as quickly!

There is something incredibly restorative about being immersed in nature. Slowing down, watching, listening and reconnecting with the rhythms of the seasons.

Sometimes the best entertainment is right outside your window.

Sauna is more than heat.

It's the ritual of preparing your space. The scent of essential oils. The gentle sweep of a freshly made vihta. The hiss of water meeting hot stones. The cool shock of cold water on warm skin.

This week I've been trying out some homemade beech, fern and lavender vihtas, bringing another layer of nature into the sauna experience. Traditionally used across Nordic cultures, whisking helps stimulate circulation, gently exfoliate the skin and fill the sauna with the fragrance of the surrounding landscape.🌿

Combined with heat, fresh air and contrast therapy, sauna offers a chance to reset both body and mind. A moment to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with the rhythms of nature.

From sea views and birdsong to steam and cold water, every element plays its part.

A ritual for the body. A pause for the mind. A nourishment for the soul. 🌾

🌿 June's palette is changing by the day…

The meadows are putting on their annual show, with soft Yorkshire fog grasses catching the breeze and vivid foxgloves adding splashes of pink across the hillsides.

It's one of those lovely moments in the year when the landscape feels especially alive – textures, colours and scents shifting almost daily, with views stretching across the Solway and wildflowers weaving their way through the grass.

A reminder that no two visits are ever quite the same. 💚

Sauna views 🌿

This week has brought a little bit of everything to Galloway — sunshine, sea mist, torrential rain and calm blue skies.

But that's the beauty of a sauna with a view.

On bright days, you can sit back and watch the sunlight dance across the bay. When the weather rolls in, there's something equally special about being wrapped in warmth while the elements put on a show outside.

Whatever the forecast, the view is always changing.

And that's part of the experience.
