September brings a softer light to the Solway coast, casting long shadows across the fields and warming the ancient stones of High Auchenlarie.

Last of the Summer Wild Flowers by Moonlight 🌙

Summer may be drawing to a close, but there is still plenty of colour in the landscape.

The last wild flowers stand amongst the grasses around Barlocco, while the moon rises over the Solway, casting a golden trail across the water.

One of those quiet, magical moments that makes you stop, look and simply take it all in.

Wildflowers, a rainbow and Stewartry Bay beneath a brooding sky.

They say the weather on 1 September foretells the weather for the month ahead…

After today’s rain, I’m hoping that’s just an old wives’ tale!

This afternoon, the rain came down in biblical proportions. Thunder rolled, the landscape disappeared behind sheets of rain and, through it all, the unmistakable scent of woodsmoke drifted across the hill from the saunas.

And then, slowly, the storm passed.
The clouds lifted, the landscape reappeared and the view returned.

There’s something rather special about being tucked away here when the weather does its thing. Cosy inside, wild outside, and that ever-changing view waiting beyond the doors.

A sunrise worth waking for.🧡

A little gift from a recent guest, who captured this beautiful late-August sunrise from the deck at Ardwall.

Three nights in Barlocco, followed by three nights in Ardwall — and on their final morning, the sky put on quite a show.

That deep red glow.
The stillness.

A day spent lost in stories… followed by an evening of stillness. 📖✨

This autumn, Wigtown Book Festival returns to Scotland's National Book Town, bringing ten wonderful days of author talks, music, theatre, food and visual arts.

And just 30 minutes away, you can retreat from the bustle to your own little private corner of the countryside.

Come back to the warmth of your lodge, step into the wood-fired sauna beneath a sky full of stars, then curl up with a cup of tea and perhaps the newest addition to your bookshelf.
