Dartmoor, with it's secret swimming spots, and amazing Cornish beaches are all within easy reach. There's castles, gorges, churches perched on top of granite tors, quiet lanes and footpaths, great pubs, amazing local produce and birdsong by the bucket load. Oh the blessed October light! What a joy it is right now. It makes late afternoon dipping on Dartmoor still an enticing prospect and every walk is punctuated with a dazzling burst of rays or an extraordinary cloud formation. It's that 'wood burner on and windows open' season. You want the flame but not necessarily the heat! There are still tomatoes to pick in the poly (just) and the dahlias are clinging on. I'll be sad to see them go...

We have gaps here and there, still a smidgeon of space for half term and our midweek low season special (details on the website or send us a DM - we're always happy to answer queries) is live with 10, 15 or 20% off depending on how long you stay.

Such a beautiful time of year. The sun is still very much present. There are beautiful mornings and star filled skies at night.

We have space here and there and autumn offers running. We know times are weird and we truly believe that Devon Dens is a wonderful place to escape the madness. Cosy, dog friendly cabins, hiking, nature, wild swim spots, beaches, coast path walks, ancient sites, sea pools, pubs, books, games, jigsaws, stop, hide, breathe 💚

The season of soup, of mushrooms hiding like grassy gems, apples waiting to be crumbled or stewed.

Of log fires on, hot tubs filled, sauna steaming. Days spent exploring ancient moor with standing stones or peaty pools, windy walks then back to soak.

A jigsaw shared, a chance to read, a merry tale around the fire and under stars. Scrabble tournament is go.

The beach, a surf and autumn skies. And yes with doggo, of course, of course....

Did you know...? We take a circular approach to guests food waste, turning it into nutrient rich compost which we then use to grow flowers and food for guests! Tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, lettuce, radishes, beetroot, chard, leeks have all done well this year.

The pumpkin was grown by Ben at home and won first prize in our local produce show 'single vegetable' category 🏆🎃🥳 It's bloody enormous and will be auctioned off in the harvest supper to raise funds for the upkeep of the church🧡

There's always some hidden pool on Dartmoor to wallow in as the temperatures rise again.

Big celestial events right now. 96% coverage for this evening's solar eclipse with clear skies! We failed on the fancy glasses so I'll be heading off with my colander and cardboard at 6pm to face west. I'm more interested in the feel of the eclipse than the view TBH. We have great dark skies at Devon Dens so our guests will have a great view of the Perseid meteor shower 💫

Summerleaze beach in Bude has been named as beach of the year 🥳 We've long known how fabulous it is, especially with the jewel that is , an 90 metre free lido, open year round with changing facilities and a great community of both volunteers and regulars. Our guests love Bude for many reasons, including....

serving superb pastries and lunches (expect queues, it's that good)
is a cracking eatery on the canal. Great for lunch
bookshop, a proper independent book shop
- take a gentle stroll along the canal, have lunch then walk it off coming back
has a DJ outside in summer and the wood burner on in winter. Proper beach vibes.
for a sunset steam complete with plunge looking over the sea (or in the sea!)
- swim in the sea pool, order takeaway and eat watching the sun go down
is a fab little pub with a big heart. Often has music.
has THE BEST pasties.
- an actual department store 🤩 which has a great cafe with views

On top of these brilliant, independent businesses, there's so much to do. Crazy golf, tennis, amazing walks (if the tides are low enough - and do check! - you can walk to Sandy mouth along the beach and return along the cliffs), surf lessons, paddle boarding on the canal, pedalos.... We say go early to avoid the traffic and stay all day. It's not as nobby as its neighbours further down the coast (looking at you, Rock!) but is definitely cooler and smarter than Newquay (controversial, I know 😁) And of course, there are great beaches!
