🌿 From Laneside... Discover Castleton 🌿
Just 15 minutes from Laneside, Castleton is one of those villages we find ourselves returning to time and time again.
Whether you're looking for a scenic walk, a leisurely lunch or simply a chance to browse a few lovely independent businesses, it's well worth a visit.
Here are some of our favourite spots:
🍺 The Downe Arms – We recently enjoyed a fabulous meal here, with such a warm welcome from the team and, without exaggeration, one of the best pies I've had in a long time! If you're looking for traditional Yorkshire hospitality, I'd certainly recommend it.
🍽 The Eskdale – Perfect for a special meal. Set beside the River Esk, this wonderful restaurant has previously been recognised by the MICHELIN Guide and serves beautifully prepared dishes showcasing some of Yorkshire's finest local produce.
🥖 Off the Scale – An award-winning gluten-free bakery and zero-waste refill shop that's become a real favourite of ours. Their bakes are delicious, and it's a wonderful place to pick up gifts, local produce and a few treats to take home.
☕ The Old Chapel Tearoom – One of Castleton's hidden gems. Enjoy homemade cakes, a pot of Yorkshire tea and, if you're lucky enough to get a table outside, breathtaking views stretching across Danby Dale. There's even a piano inside, adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's one of those places where it's very easy to lose track of time.
🥾 Castleton is surrounded by beautiful walking country, with gentle riverside strolls through the village and longer walks into Danby Park, across the moors and along the Esk Valley, all offering spectacular Yorkshire scenery.
After exploring the village, you're only a short drive back to the peace and quiet of Laneside.
Sometimes the perfect day out isn't about ticking off lots of attractions... it's about finding one lovely Yorkshire village, enjoying a fantastic meal, discovering a few hidden gems and taking your time.
💚 Katy's Tip: Come hungry! Enjoy lunch at The Downe Arms, browse Off the Scale, treat yourself to coffee and cake at The Old Chapel Tearoom while soaking up those glorious views across Danby Dale, then finish with a peacef
