This is a pointless exercise, and a complete waste of time and public resources.

John Swinney knows the people of Scotland have no interest in revisiting the independence question.

He also knows fine well the UK Government will rightly reject his selfish and obsessive demands.

Scots have made it clear they want a government which focuses on the things that matter most, such as health, education and jobs.

First Minister John Swinney says ‘the world has fundamentally changed’ since the last independence referendum in 2014.

Yesterday’s GERS figures confirmed once again that Scotland benefits enormously from being part of the UK.

Pooling and sharing resources means billions more for vital public services, including £2,720 more per person than the UK average.

The latest Scottish Government figures have once again underlined the enormous financial benefit of Scotland’s place in the United Kingdom, with billions more available for public services through the pooling and sharing of resources.Of course, the benefits to Scots of being part of the UK go far ...

The nationalists may be in perpetual denial about it, but there’s no doubting that Scots benefit enormously from being part of the UK.

The annual accounts – published by the Scottish Government – show the 'Union dividend' for every man, woman and child in Scotland now stands at £2,720 meaning Scots would be much worse off under an independent Scotland.

Year after year these figures provide a rock-solid case for Scotland’s place in the United Kingdom.

The nationalists may be in perpetual denial about it, but there’s no doubting that Scots benefit enormously from being part of the UK.

It means Scotland has billions of pounds extra to spend on vital public services, and it’s one of the main reasons why Scots repeatedly reject the SNP’s demands to break up Britain.

The SNP have no answer when it comes to filling this gigantic financial gap, and their continual refusal to do so underlines yet again how threadbare their case for independence is.
