🌿 MEET THE TEAM – PART 13 🌿

👋 This is Sharon. Together with her husband, Pete, she makes up half of our super cleaning foursome — and she’s a constant ray of sunshine around the park 😊

⏳ Time at Old Oaks:
3 and a half years.

🙋‍♀️ A little bit about me:
Pete and I first met when we were just 13 or 14, as we lived around the corner from each other. We lost touch when I moved to America and he went off to university, only to be reunited in our late 30s. Five years later, we were married!

I like the quiet life, and our pitch at Old Oaks is my own little piece of zen. I love being outdoors, gardening — although, sadly, I’m not quite up to James’s standards for helping with the gardens at Old Oaks! — and camping. Just as well, really, as I’m almost permanently outside.

Oh, and I don’t do drama…

💚 What I love most about the park:
The laughter, and catching up with guests and colleagues.

🌿 Favourite spot on the park:
I love the walk around the mural and past the beautiful wildflowers. Watching the bees and butterflies flitting about among all the pollen- and nectar-rich plants is wonderful. I’m also rather fond of the old telephone box.

🍕 Favourite food:
Definitely pizza.

🎨 Hobbies:
Making jewellery and handmade cards. I also love camping in the middle of nowhere.

🫶 How would my colleagues and friends describe me?
I’d like to think people see me as kind and caring — always there to help and lend a listening ear. OK… and perhaps a little bit crazy, slightly ditzy and always up for a good laugh!

📍 Local recommendation:
The White Spring — but watch out for naked people!

🌟 A random fact about me:
Most people won’t know this, but I’ve appeared on television and radio, as well as in promotional materials around the world! I worked at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and was part of the opening team for Universal Islands of Adventure and CityWalk.

😂 Funniest moment at work:
When our carpenter, Steve, was up a ladder, I stuck a sign on it saying, “General Information Point.” He didn’t notice it for hours, but did wonder why so many guests kept stopping to chat with him!

💡 Top tip for guests:
Relax… we’ve got it all handled.

If you see Sharon around the park, be sure to say hello 👋

🎉 And the August Photo Competition winner is… 📸

We’ve had another brilliant collection of photos from our lovely guests this month – thank you to everyone who took the time to enter!

This time, the difficult job of picking a favourite was handed over to our fantastic cleaning team, Clive and Julie. After having a good look through all the entries, they decided that this lovely photo of the Old Oaks fishing pond was their favourite.

Congratulations, Linda Davies! 🥳🍾

You’ve won a £50 Old Oaks Holiday Voucher!

Linda, just send us a quick message and we’ll get your voucher added to your account.

A big thank you to everyone who entered this month. We always love seeing your photos and the different ways you capture your time at Old Oaks.

Now… what will September bring? 📸🍂

🌿 MEET THE TEAM – PART 12 🌿

👋 This is Adam, one of our gardeners and James’ right-hand man. He’s one of the people responsible for keeping the pitches and grounds looking beautiful throughout the year.

Adam has an incredible knowledge of plants, shrubs and trees, and we’re sure you’ll agree that he does a fantastic job of keeping the park looking its best, come rain or shine.

⏳ Time at Old Oaks:
Nearly five years.

🙋‍♂️ A little bit about me:
I have two cats called Norman and Jemima, and I’ll soon be adding a kitten to the family. It was abandoned by its mother here at Old Oaks, so it looks as though it has found itself a new home!

I’m really into cacti and succulents and have built up quite a collection. My favourite time of year is autumn. I love the changing colours, particularly the bright reds of the Norway maples, as well as all the different fungi that appear around the park. Most importantly, it’s not so hot!

💚 What I love most about the park:
The team. I’m blessed to work with such a great bunch of people who are always up for a laugh and a joke.

🌿 Favourite spot on the park:
The fishing lake. It’s lovely and peaceful, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a kingfisher.

🍽️ Favourite food:
I’m partial to a spicy pizza, but I’m also a recent convert to sushi.

🔭 Hobbies:
Getting outside with the family, exploring new places and marching the children begrudgingly across the countryside!

I also love getting my telescope out on clear nights to explore the stars and planets, or devising new projects using single-board computers and my 3D printer. Basically, the nerdier, the better.

🗣️ How would my colleagues and friends describe me?
A bit forgetful, but hardworking and with a good eye for detail.

📍 Local recommendation:
Get yourself up Glastonbury Tor—and if you own a set of bongos, bring them too! Failing that, Glastonbury Abbey offers a fascinating window into the town’s history, while RSPB Ham Wall is a beautiful wetland reserve packed with wildlife.

🪂 A random fact about me:
I’m an expert at putting parachutes on things and throwing them out of aircraft! Unfortunately, there wasn’t much demand for that after I left the Army, so I went back to school in my thirties to gain a higher diploma in countryside management. Now I get to look after this amazing park as a gardener.

💡 Top tip for guests:
I highly recommend the wood-fired pizzas—they’re excellent!

If you see Adam around the park, be sure to say hello 👋
