This is your reminder that a pint tastes even better with a view.

Especially when that view looks like this. 🍺🌿

And if you're staying a little longer, a sharer of loaded nachos isn't a bad idea either.

Choose from mince beef, shredded chicken, halloumi, or keep them classic.

Thinking about a summer staycation?

Here's one of our favourite ways to explore the North York Moors without moving the car.

The Coastliner 840 stops right outside the Mallyan Spout Hotel and runs between Whitby, Goathland, Pickering, Malton, York and beyond. So if you're staying with us, you can leave the car where it is and enjoy a day out in Whitby instead. And if you're staying on the coast, it's an easy way to spend the day exploring Goathland.

Jump on the bus into Whitby for fish and chips by the harbour, a wander around the old town, or a walk along the seafront. Then head back to Goathland without worrying about parking.

Day tickets are available, including options for unlimited travel across the Coastliner network, making it an easy way to explore more of Yorkshire while you're here.

Not a bad way to see the North York Moors this summer.

Summer staycation plans, sorted.

Coffee after a walk, cocktails before dinner…

Sunny walks around Goathland, lunch out in the North York Moors, cocktails in the evening, and coffee in the Coach House once the walking boots are off.

The new menu’s made for this sort of weather too. British half roast chicken, lighter summer dishes like our Caesar Salad and Watermelon & Buffalo Mozzarella Salad, and plenty you’ll want to sit over for a bit longer.

And if you’re just passing through after a walk, the Coach House Coffee Shop will be open through the early afternoon for coffee, cake, and somewhere to slow down for a bit.

We’re fully booked for Saturday and Sunday night now, but there’s still some availability left on Bank Holiday Monday if you fancy stretching the weekend out a little longer.

We were recently sent this photograph of the Mallyan Spout Hotel taken by John Brown back in 1965 and, honestly, apart from the cars and the ivy on the walls, it still looks much the same today.

Along with the photograph came this lovely message from John's son:

“He [John] was from North Yorks as well as my mum. They loved the area with a passion and stayed at the Mallyan Spout. Looking at it, the blue car on the right might actually be theirs!”

And that’s exactly what people love about the North York Moors, the passion people have for the place.

The slower pace, the memories, and the feeling that stepping into Goathland is a bit like stepping back in time for a while.

Some people first came here because they loved the moors. Others because of Heartbeat, or more recently Harry Potter and Goathland Station becoming Hogsmeade.

But what we love most is seeing people come back year after year, then eventually bringing the next generation with them because the village means something to them too.

That’s a pretty special part of working at the Mallyan.

We’d love to know, what’s your earliest memory of Goathland or the Mallyan?

And if anyone’s got any old photographs tucked away somewhere, we’d absolutely love to see them.

New dishes, local produce, and summer evenings in Goathland.

Seasonal dishes in the Valley View Restaurant, proper pub favourites in the Spout Bar, and the sort of food that fits perfectly after a day out in the North York Moors.

All our meat and fish is sourced from local suppliers as part of our promise to support local produce and local businesses wherever we can.

Whether it’s a relaxed lunch in Goathland, dinner overlooking the moors, or a drink that turns into staying a little longer than planned, there’s plenty worth settling in for this summer.

The new menus are well worth a look if you’re planning a visit.
