Did you know that one of the most important horses in racing history is buried at Goldsborough Hall?
Standing beside the front steps of the hall is our extraordinary Yorkshire champion false acacia tree, planted over 300 years ago to mark the resting place of the legendary Byerley Turk.
Owned by Captain Robert Byerley of Goldsborough Hall, the Byerley Turk became his famous war horse before retiring here to stud. Today, every thoroughbred racehorse in the world traces its bloodline back to just three founding stallions – and the Byerley Turk was the earliest of them all.
In late spring, this remarkable tree burst into cascades of fragrant white flowers, making now one of the most beautiful times to visit the gardens.
Our gardens are open on selected days throughout the season, where you can explore our historic grounds, champion trees and centuries of history, before enjoying coffee, lunch or afternoon tea at the hall.
Garden tickets can be booked online via our website https://www.goldsboroughhall.com/gardens
