🚨 Volunteers Needed for Waddecar's Leader's Skills Weekend! 🏕️🧭

Do you have a skill, hobby or activity you'd love to share with fellow Scout leaders?

We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help deliver practical sessions at our Leader's Skills Weekend on 17th to 18th April 2027 at Waddecar Scout Activity Centre.

We're planning a weekend packed with hands-on learning, with sessions that could include:
🪢 Pioneering
🧭 Orienteering
🌊 Raft Building
🧩 Problem Solving
🧗 Bouldering
⛺ Tent Pitching
🔥 Backwoods Cooking..and much more!

Have another great idea? We'd love to hear it! Whether you're an experienced instructor or simply passionate about sharing a skill, we'd be delighted to have you involved.

🏹🌲 NEW AT WADDECAR: FIELD ARCHERY! 🌲🏹

We’re excited to introduce the latest addition to Waddecar, our brand-new Field Archery Range!

Available for Scouts and Explorers, Field Archery is the perfect progression from standard target archery, giving young people the chance to take their skills to the next level.

🎯 Longer distances
🏹 More challenging shots
🌲 A different style of archery experience
🎯 Greater focus and discipline
💪 A chance to build on existing archery skills

Rather than shooting repeatedly at a single target, Field Archery brings a new challenge, encouraging participants to think about distance, accuracy, technique and consistency as they progress around the range.

For the moment, Field Archery is available as a self-led activity only.

To lead a session, the instructor must have attended one of our Waddecar Field Archery Induction sessions, covering the range layout, operating procedures and how to deliver sessions safely. A current Scout Archery Permit is required to attend an induction.

Already confident with target archery? It might be time to head into the field! 🏹🌲

In light of the recent weather and the upcoming forecast, we are amending our current fire regulations. Fires are now allowed at Waddecar on alter fires away from the ground. We are still requesting that the campfire circles on the ground are not used. We’d also ask you to continue to review any plans which involve lighting or cooking on naked flames. If you have activities planned, it's essential that you review your risk assessments in line with the local and national guidance. Thank you for your understanding. 🦡🔥

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

There is a high risk of wildfires in England and Wales at the moment.

Lighting fires and cooking over open fires is a big part of Scouts, but for the moment we need to be very practical and keep everyone safe.

Following the Government Safety Alert, there are to be NO OPEN FIRES at Waddecar until further notice.

We thank you for your cooperation in keeping everyone and our site safe.
