Did you make the Cowal Games yesterday, or have you been before?
Thoroughly enjoyed the games yesterday in Dunoon and caught this snippet of a beautiful rendition of Highland Cathedral by Renfrewshire Council Schools Band as the bands played along the streets.
If you don't know about the Cowal Games, here is some history.....
Dunoon sits on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll, reached easily by ferry across the water from Gourock. On the last weekend of August every year, it plays host to the Cowal Highland Gathering.
The gathering began back in 1894, originally started because locals wanted the town to have its own games. What started as a local event now draws competitors and spectators from across the globe.
Over the decades, it expanded to feature iconic championships, including solo piping, world-class Highland dancing, heavy athletics, and prestigious historical trophies.
On the final day, the pipe bands march through Dunoon, filling the streets before a great fireworks display at Dunoon Pier, which was even accompanied by pipes last night! 😍
