Our cleaners have just been named 2026/27 Domestic Cleaning Company of the Year (Highlands) by the Scotland Prestige Awards.

Wow - so many guests compliment the Bothy on its cleanliness so this is very well deserved.

Some rather good news...🏆

The Spotless Cleaning Company has been named 2026/27 Domestic Cleaning Company of the Year (Highlands) by the Scotland Prestige Awards

We are genuinely thrilled to have been acknowledged, not just because of the award itself but because it recognises the hard work of the whole team and the care they put in each and every day.

From early starts to late finishes and all the bed changes in between we are incredibly grateful to our team, our clients and everyone who continues to support us.

Last night we popped over to Boat of Garten to see Ed Smith’s photography exhibition- Uisge Spe.

Alongside each photo, he’s printed a card telling the story behind the image and how it relates to climate. I learnt lots about the River Spey that I didn’t know, like over 40% of the river doesn’t even make it from the source to Kingussie (about half way from source to sea) because it’s redirected to Perth and Fort William through man made pipes. I had no idea!

The exhibition is also coming to Grantown and can be viewed in OPENSPACE • THE VAULT • from 11th September. It’s definitely worth popping along to find out more about the River Spey.

Too much cloud cover for the solar eclipse in Grantown this evening. Whilst it’s gone fairly dark, we’ll have to make do with watching it on the TV!

We are so upset about the wildfire in the Cairngorms. It’s been burning for over a week and just when we thought it was starting to get under control, it flared up in strong winds and moved closer to Nethy Bridge, our neighbours.

Some of our friends were evacuated last night and can’t get back to their homes yet. And a major incident was declared by the Police.

In Grantown, we are not at risk of the fire reaching us (Neil reminded me there’s a big river in the way!) we all just feel so helpless. We want to be doing something to help, but not sure what, and we also don’t want to get in the way.

We are so grateful to all the fire fighters, estate staff, helicopter pilots and many, many volunteers who are relentlessly fighting this fire. They must all be exhausted.

We just want to say a massive ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone involved.

Today we walked around Delliefure Natural Burial Ground and the woodland walk. It’s so peaceful, you feel like you’re a million miles from anywhere.

If only benches could talk, they would have thousands of stories to tell. I often see people sitting and contemplating the world on this bench on the Speyside Way.

Today I took some time to sit, take in the quiet view and contemplate the commemorative plaque to Philippa Jane Small.

We are so lucky to have the on our doorstep.

Most of our guests take some time to explore our woods whilst they’re here. I wondered how many have also sat on this bench 🤔

We have a midweek window at our Courtyard Bothy from Tuesday to Friday this week - 16th-19th.

Book a short stay with for a change of scenery and a relaxing few days making the most of our long summer days.

Sometimes the best getaways are the spontaneous ones!

Grantown now has a dog park 😁
Occasionally guests ask where they can walk their dogs where they won’t meet others, so this is definitely somewhere to recommend.

Looking forward to going along ourselves with Islay to try it out.

On Monday evening I went to the finale workshop of the Grantown Open Studios weekend. It was a live session with Hamish Napier Music to compose a new piece of music in 90 mins with audience participation. I was intrigued as to how he would achieve this, but sure enough after 90 mins we had composed ‘Light on the Cromdales’.

Personally, I think it’s pretty good 🎶
