There's more than one way to enjoy a drink at Blackfriars. We've got low and no-alcohol options on draught right now — including Brehon's low-alcohol Nitro Stout - Pioneer, Kasteel Rouge 0.0, and Barsham Brewery's Stacked AF pale ale. All available now. Ask at the bar.

**This one sold out, but we'll have another on Thursday 20th August**

There's something special about beer served the old way — straight from a wooden barrel, on gravity, the way it's been done for centuries.

Right now at The Blackfriars Tavern, we have a small wooden cask from Ampersand Brewery filled with their Whisky Barrel Aged Stout · 5.4% ABV. This is proper "beer from the wood" — traditional real ale served on gravity direct from the barrel, straight out of the cellar.

The whisky barrel ageing gives this stout a depth and character you just don't get from a standard cask. There's something about the wood that softens and enriches the beer, adding gentle oak notes and a whisper of the spirit that came before it. It's a slow, patient sort of drink — something worth taking your time over.

It's available now, while stocks last. And with a small cask like this, stocks really won't last long.

Ask at the bar, find a quiet corner, and enjoy a proper pint of something a little different.

Ampersand Brewery's Whisky Barrel Aged Stout (5.5% ABV) is pouring at Blackfriars — served on gravity from a wooden barrel in the traditional way. While stocks last.

Good to know that we are still one of the best places - we are named in an article in yesterday's I-Paper written by Gabe Cook - aka The Ciderologist

"Blackfriars Tavern, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

Not as heralded as the West Country, but Norfolk has a great pedigree of making cider and many passionate drinkers. It is also home to passionate landlords, too, by all accounts, for the Blackfriars Tavern won Camra cider pub of the year in 2025. This is all the more remarkable given the pub was derelict a little over five years ago. Today, this solid Victorian pub is wearing its win with pride, as it should, with more than 30 different traditional ciders available, including a big focus on local Norfolk makers."

It's behind a paywall (https://inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/best-pubs-taprooms-drink-cider-uk-pommelier-4663435), but you may be able to see the whole thing using a method of your choosing.

Join us for a relaxed evening of live music, good company and proper pub atmosphere as Folk Night returns to The Blackfriars Tavern on Thursday 6 August from 7pm.

First Thursday of the month, as always. Players, singers, listeners — all welcome. Whether you bring an instrument, a song to share, spoken word, or just an ear for a good tune, you will find a friendly welcome.

There is no need to book. Just turn up, find a seat, and enjoy the evening. It is the kind of night that reminds you what a good local pub is all about: music, conversation, and the warmth of good company.

Come along from 7pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

It’s the final day of our Beer, Cider & Perry Festival, and there’s still plenty worth raising a glass to.

Sunday 12th July is your last chance to explore the festival range — around 24 real ales and 50 ciders and perries still pouring on the bar. But today is about more than just the drinks. It’s also the day we celebrate something rather special.

Norfolk CAMRA Presentation

From around 2pm, Norfolk CAMRA will be here to present The Blackfriars Tavern with both Norfolk Pub of the Year 2026 and Norfolk Cider & Perry Pub of the Year 2026 certificates — the third consecutive year we’ve received both accolades at the Norfolk level. That’s a big deal, and we’d love to see you there for the presentation and group photos.

Live Music

Magpye (folk including Paul, the brewer at Drenchfoot) — 1:30pm – 2:30pm
The Ballard Bootleggers — 3:30pm – 5:30pm (their seventh visit to Blackfriars!)

All free, all relaxed, and all best enjoyed with a proper pint or a cider in hand.

The final day of our Beer, Cider & Perry Festival — with CAMRA awards, live music from Magpye and The Ballard Bootleggers, and an earlier 8:30pm close. Come along and celebrate.
