The Conclave
Epping Forest Conclave is the intersection between the Secret Monitor Provinces of Middlesex, Essex and London and meets biannually in the City of London.
Epping Forest Conclave was consecrated on 6th May 1980 as an Essex Conclave celebrating London’s largest open space, which is, incidentally, owned and managed by the City of London. Although initially successful, the Conclave eventually languished and by the mid-noughties had gone into abeyance.
At the start of the following decade, inspired by the rapid growth of the Scarlet Cord, the Province of Middlesex was looking for ways to improve its membership, and was considering consecrating a new unit to meet on the eastern side of the Province, however a chance conversation revealed the presence of a dying Conclave in need of a home, and the then Provincial Grand Supreme Ruler for Essex, R.Wy.Bro. Barry Clarke, indicated his willingness to assist in its revival.
After a short recruitment drive, a special meeting was held in July 2012, at The Gun Tavern, in Spitalfields in the City of London, attended by the Provincial Grand Supreme Rulers for Essex, Middlesex and London. The Conclave was opened by the Provincial G.S.R. for Essex who then reponed it to the Provincial G.S.R. for Middlesex, R.Wy.Bro. Trevor Dutt. It was immediately joined by Brethren from both those Provinces along with a number from London thus defining its future membership as a crossover of all three Provinces.
