We are very pleased to announce that we have been successful in securing a grant from Sport England to upgrade our Archery Range.

It is a match funding scheme, we have to raise £4,927 through a crowdfunder and Sport England will then match fund a grant to us of £4,927, the total project cost is over 10k and Bushy Wood will cover the rest from its own funds.

Today we are launching the crowdfunder, please support it if you are able, and of course share it widely, we must hit the £4,927 threshold in the next few weeks to unlock the match funding.

The archery range will be closed on the 1st October for the rebuild to take place this Autumn/Winter.

It was great to be able to offer the opportunity to these Young People and let them complete their work experience with us.

Marc our Centre Manager recently commented -

Every year we host a number of students on work experience from schools across the county, usually 5-6 of them a year, for periods of time varying from 3 to 5 days.

It's something we choose to offer as it fits our ethos as a youth-focused centre, enabling us to give young people the opportunity to experience our varied and sometimes challenging work environment, I am grateful to the team at Bushy for managing these experiences on top of their busy workloads!

Always happy to discuss a potential placement with anyone interested, schools vary in that some manage it directly and others expect parents to arrange it, either way we would of course always welcome applicants from our scout and guide families ⚜️

Thank you to the many Sussex employers who were able to host a work experience student in May 2025.

A special shoutout to these businesses and organisations for opening their doors:
➡️ White Rock Theatre
➡️ Barby Keel Animal Sanctuary (Registered Charity No. 1095382)
➡️ Bobbie Dazzler's Dog Salon
➡️ Bushy Wood Activity Centre
➡️ British Transport Police
➡️ Cooden Beach Golf Club
➡️ Hawkes Farm Academy
➡️ Little bramley farm horse sanctuary
➡️ Aspens Charities
➡️ Windlesham Manor

Your support has given these young people a fantastic opportunity to develop skills, gain confidence, and explore future career paths.

We hope you enjoyed having them as much as they enjoyed learning from you! 🙌

Massive congratulations and BIG shout out to Bushy Team Member - Oscar Williams

Oscar has been awarded his Chief Scout Commendation for Good Service Award in recognition of his commitment to maintaining and Improving Bushy for all those that use it.

Oscar has been doing this at Bushy since he was an Explorer Scout - being a founding teenager of Team Bravo ESU - Bushy Wood Activity Centre Explorer Service Team long before it became a proper ESU. You can see how well that went from the picture below 👇 😂

As an adult Oscar has been involved in many of the tech upgrades across the site where he specialises but you will also find at random times of the day when he has a gap in his work schedule leaf blowing, hedge cutting, grass seeding and so on.

The Scouts consider this award to be presented when a member does the following:

“This award is given in respect of not less than 5 years good service, which stands out. It should be regarded as the Chief Scout's recognition of the very real contribution made to the Association by the individual concerned”

At just over 26 years old this is an amazing achievement by Oscar and think we can all agree with the work Oscar does at Bushy Wood he fulfils that criteria!

Congratulations and well deserved Oscar 👏
