🙏🏼

Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora have provided the following update on the Pope’s postoperative recovery:

This morning, the Holy Father underwent the blood tests and chest X-ray scheduled after surgery. The results confirm that his postoperative recovery is progressing normally: the values are within the expected range for the type of operation performed.

The Holy Father has undergone respiratory physiotherapy and has begun walking around his room. He has resumed eating normally and had breakfast and lunch.

His recovery is proceeding as expected.

Help us celebrate the Feast of the Holy Protection on Sunday 18th October at 1pm St Paul’s Church King Cross,Halifax HX1 3NN. We will be blessing our specially commissioned icon of the Holy Protection as we honour and remember our Defenders.

The Feast of the Holy Protection (Holy Pokrova) is one of the most significant Holy Days in Ukraine. The Holy Protection Of the Mother of God is strongly linked to the Ukrainian Kozaks. She was the patroness of the Zaporozhian Kozaks. Yet, the connection goes further back to Prince Yaroslav the Wise who placed Ukraine under her protection in 1037.
Today, she is associated with all Defenders of Ukraine, and celebrated in the newly adopted Julian calendar on 1st October. Older calendar observers still mark 14th October as the Feast Day.
May the Holy Protection cast her veil and protect Ukraine and all Ukrainians wherever they find themselves.

Yushchenko to Trump: trade didn't tame Japan before Pearl Harbor

Viktor Yushchenko, Ukraine's president from 2005 to 2010, wrote an open letter to US President Donald Trump days after Washington waived sanctions on Russian diesel until April 2027.

In 1941, he reminded Trump, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor after years in which Washington hoped trade and diplomacy would keep the peace. Money paid for Russian fuel, he wrote, finances "an economy geared toward total war."

He recalled that Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons, trusting America's signature, and named Sergeant Michael Strank, who helped raise the US flag on Iwo Jima, as proof that Ukrainians and Americans have fought side by side.

"History taught us that lesson at a terrible price," Yushchenko wrote.
