1885 The Venue

As many of you may already be aware, in 2011 we purchased the pub adjacent to the restaurant. We now feel that the time is right to put our 1885 mark of quality to the long-standing building. Our aim is to provide a welcoming, traditional, family environment for any night of the week, any time of the day. Somewhere you can enjoy a morning coffee, a drink after work, or bring the family for a bite

to eat. We’ll be serving simple, homemade favourites at the high standards that have become synonymous with the 1885 name. From time-honoured hearty pub grub such as Beef & Ale Pie or Fish & Chips, to lighter dishes and snacks such as salads, sandwiches, and cakes. We are bringing a touch of class at an affordable price, whilst reinvigorating the pub scene in our beautiful Pennine village. The South-facing beer garden will be refurbished to create a beautiful suntrap. An ideal location for soaking up the rays whilst enjoying a cool, crisp beer and a burger straight from the grill. In winter the rustic log fire and historic open stone floors, will provide the perfect atmosphere for sipping hot, spiced cider and bringing the community together for one of our famous 1885 hog roasts! To honour the regions rich brewing heritage, we’ll be offering some of the finest local ales such as Black Sheep and Timmy Taylor’s Landlord. These will be accompanied by an ever-changing selection of guest ales. So, if you’ve got a favourite ale to recommend for our guest pumps, let us know and we will do our best to get some in stock. If you’re not sure what you like, or simply want to try a selection, then go for our Ale Board and get three different thirds! Some of our local members may have noticed posters stating that we will also have bedrooms available. Whilst this is true, it is phase two of what we lovingly refer to as “The Project”. We will be introducing this in spring next year and, of course, will keep you posted as The Project develops. The pub will be open 7 days a week and as ever, our 1885 ethos of approachability and personal service is one of the key ingredients we offer. So, if you would like to hire the place out for any event, just give us a ring and we are happy to chat. It also means both the restaurant and the pub will be available, enabling us to accommodate even larger scale events. In the restaurant, we will continue to create the finest contemporary dishes and bring you first class table service, whilst our exciting pre-fix menu offers the option of an affordable fine dining experience.
