🔥 We think October might officially be sauna season.

A long walk. Fresh Harris air. Maybe a little wind and rain along the way.

Then back to your lodge, shoes off, heating on and into your own private sauna.

Arran, Inver and Coll each have a Scandinavian sauna within the lodge, so there's no booking a spa or heading anywhere else at the end of the day.

✨ When the nights get darker, Harris puts on a different kind of show.

The Outer Hebrides has some of the darkest skies in the UK, making autumn a wonderful time to step outside after dark and simply look up.

On a clear night, the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxy can be visible to the naked eye. And if conditions are just right, there’s always the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights, known in Gaelic as Fir Chlis. Aurora sightings can begin as early as September, although nature makes no promises.

Wrap up warm, step outside and see what the Harris sky has waiting for you.

🍂 Harris changes pace as autumn arrives.

The roads are quieter. The beaches are emptier. And the changing light brings a completely different feel to the island.

It’s a lovely time to take the Golden Road, wander the sands of South Harris, explore the island’s galleries and villages, or simply stop whenever the view catches your eye.

Then head back to Finsbay, warm up in your private sauna and settle in for the evening overlooking the loch.

Sometimes quieter really is better.

🚗 Two roads. Plenty of reasons to keep stopping.

The Golden Road and Bays Road wind down the east coast of Harris through a landscape of rocky coastline, sea inlets and small island communities.

Along the way, discover galleries and Harris Tweed, watch for seals around Flodabay and continue south towards historic St Clement’s Church at Rodel.

It’s not a road to rush.

And with Finsbay in South Harris, it makes a wonderful day of exploring before returning to the comfort of your lodge for the evening.

One of the loveliest features of Inver Lodge is its conservatory overlooking the river and estuary.

It’s somewhere to sit with a morning coffee, watch the landscape change and keep an eye out for some of the wildlife that passes through Finsbay.

Seals and otters can be spotted in the area, along with migratory fish in the waters below. And if nothing appears? You still have a beautiful Harris view to enjoy.

October on Harris means quieter shores, changing light and plenty of room to wander.

Luskentyre and Scarista may be two of the island's best-known beaches, but part of the pleasure is finding your own favourite stretch of sand along the way.

Pack a jacket, take the scenic route and don't worry too much about the forecast. On Harris, watching the weather roll across the landscape is part of the experience.

Then it's back to Finsbay and the warmth of your own private sauna.
