Shelbourne House are celebrating 25 years.
On the 30th of January 1993 a young Sue Clarke started her dream of running her own business, and moved to the beautiful town of Harrogate.
On average the longevity of owning and running a guesthouse is 5 to 6 years, so with a 5-year business plan and many stories later the time soon turned into two and a half decades. The expectation of a guesthouse back then was very different, and with only two shared bathrooms, no TV’s and a basic breakfast, things certainly changed for the better, especially for you guests.
Looking at the house in 2018 being fully equipped with ensuites, Flat screen TV’s, baroque décor, fantastic breakfast menu with all local produce, times have certainly moved on.
I would like to thank all past guests, especially the ones who have stayed from the very beginning, and still return year after year. They are now considered as friends of Shelbourne, and are more like family, which has made my small business such a success. These people have been the reason for my longevity creating many tales, much laughter and I now look forward to my latest dream bringing out my book THE TALES OF A B&B.
