Mmmm 😋 deliciously moist and dense citrusy orange cake and moreish banana bread with peanut butter and tonka bean from Tonka, the new eatery on the Old Town seafront in Hastings. I’m going to recommend it as worth a visit to my future guests at Smugglers Cottage and Gloucester House. They also cater very well for vegans. I’m looking forward to trying their small plates menu next weekend.

Flowers have been a popular subject in art for centuries, with various meanings and symbolism attached to them. In the 17th and 18th centuries, flowers were seen as a symbol of wealth and luxury, often depicted in elaborate still-life paintings. In modern art, flowers have been used to convey various emotions and themes, from fragility and mortality to growth and renewal.

My own eco floristry display is shown alongside a large hand-coloured etching of poppies by the 20th Century Scottish artist Liz Blackadder. One of the most recurring subjects in her floral paintings was the humble poppy.

Yes, Christmas is almost upon us and on such a wild stormy and cold day I’ve decided to cheer up the house (Gloucester House) and myself with the beautiful vintage Christmas decorations. It’s worked. They look gorgeous- yes?
It’s all dressed for the lucky guests arriving for the coming weekend. We still have a couple of weekends free before Christmas.

No filters needed for the awesomeness of the beach at Hastings Harbour arm with its working fishing boats lined up at the ready.
So lucky to have this within view and just a few steps across from the amazing Smugglers Cottage and just a few minutes from the beautiful Gloucester House.
Still some availability in October for a last-minute getaway and all November for Smugglers Cottage.
Gloucester House is already fully booked for Oct but some dates are still available mid-late November. Get in touch for special winter offers.

Bathroom throwback picture to when we first acquired Smugglers Cottage on Hastings seafront. The before shows the pink and avocado bathroom we inherited (they were all the rage), but we decided to return Smugglers Cottage main bathroom back to a more authentic Georgian style (nothing wrong with pink & avocado just not here).

Here is part of a recent airbnb guest review for Smugglers Cottage. our wonderful Georgian seafront property built circa 1790.

“The cottage is a wonderful, quirky property right on the sea front on the edge of Old Town. It is great for people watching, quick access to the beach and a fast pop around the corner to George Street for shops and restaurants/pubs.

Do have fish and chips from The Codfather (delivered to your door on a plate!)”

The famous Cod Father (voted the second best chippy in all of Hastings) as written about in the Sussex Express and they deliver on a plate to our door! What more do you want on a seaside holiday.

A family-run restaurant near the seafront in Hastings Old Town has a growing reputation for its fish and chips, and says business is flourishing.

Here are a few Before and After shots of Gloucester House Hastings. I bought this house end of June last year and started renovations mid July. It was a struggle in many ways but so far we’ve had a wonderful family Christmas here and half term with my grandchildren plus we have now just said goodbye to our first airbnb guests and I’m loving being here at every opportunity. I love this place 😍 it’s so good for the soul. Oh and we’ve now got a 200 yr old olive tree on the terrace too.

Bedroom two at Gloucester House is now finished ✅ except perhaps for a mirror and then the finished touches are complete. Just as well as the first booking came in today 🤩 😥 it’s gone from being the room we kept the door closed, to my favourite (almost). Such a beautiful and relaxing space to be in with the sandstone cliff face for a view and the hills and trees above full of birdsong.
