This is me in my clinic assessing foot function….
Have you ever wondered how your feet actually function when you walk? 👣
A gait and biomechanical assessment is about looking beyond the painful area and understanding how your feet, ankles and lower limbs are working as a whole.
At Stride Clinic, assessment can include looking at:
🚶♂️➡️your walking pattern and how your foot moves through each step
👣 pressure distribution and areas of increased loading
🦿joint range of movement
💪 muscle strength and control
⚖️ balance and stability
🦵how the foot and ankle interact with the rest of the lower limb
The aim isn’t simply to find something “wrong” — it’s to understand how you move and whether anything could be working better.
Biomechanical imbalances or instability can sometimes contribute to ongoing foot, ankle and lower-limb pain, and in some people may also influence symptoms higher up the chain, including the knees, hips and lower back. By identifying those patterns, we can work on improving strength, control, mobility and load distribution.
Sometimes the answer may be a targeted strength and conditioning programme. In other cases, changes to footwear, and modifications or insoles/orthotics may help improve function and reduce excessive loading.
But importantly, not everyone needs orthotics.
A thorough assessment helps us decide what is actually appropriate for you.
Whether you’re experiencing persistent foot or ankle pain, lower-limb discomfort, recurrent injuries, instability, or you’re simply curious about how your feet function, a biomechanical assessment can give you a much clearer picture of what’s happening.
