At Gladstone's Library, we recognise the importance of allowing young people to access historical items, and have the opportunity to safely handle our unique collections. 🔍️ 📖

To achieve this, our Engagement and Learning Officer, Alice works alongside our Head of Collections, Isobel and Archivist, Sophia. They work hard to carefully select items from our collections which will enrich the sessions, and bring the history to life.

They also take part in showcasing these items to young people and educate our budding historians on how to handle them safely!

The Library’s collections played a key role in the first year of the project and were used in 40% of sessions. This meant young people actively engaged with 148 items from our Printed Collections and 122 from our Archives.

Our Engagement and Learning Programme has been funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to develop and deliver a new two-year engagement programme for young people aged 14 to 24 from September 2025 to August 2027.

📢 Tickets for our M.R. James Festival, Talking Terror, have almost sold out! 📢

Something is brewing at Gladstone's Library... 🔮

Join us for an enchanting afternoon with storyteller CORRYN, Spinner of Stories, Weaver of Worlds.

🕸️ CORRYN invites us on a mythic journey into Autumn with her major new piece, A Walk In The Woods, which will be premiered at this event.

🌙 She will also be bringing us the poignant plight of the Moon In Chains, the poetic tale of The Maiden of the White Vine, and more…

Tickets are from £15. This event will run for approximately 2 hours and will include an interval halfway with drinks available to purchase. You are welcome to join us for a post-event two-course dinner in our Food for Thought restaurant.

📰 Where do you get the majority of your news from?

💻️ Do you trust what you see online?

📢 What is the best way to have your voice heard?

These are some of the questions we have been asking young people during our Engagement and Learning sessions, which explores how we find consensus in a polarising world. During these sessions, we discuss how we can find common ground with those who have different opinions and accepting that it is okay when we don't agree with everyone.

We also consider how we build respect and awareness for current issues, where we get information from, and how to recognise fake news.

Our Engagement and Learning Programme has been funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to develop and deliver a new two-year engagement programme for young people aged 14 to 24 from September 2025 to August 2027.
