Some of the latest views from my running/walking/biking/swimming activities - really is a stunning place to be.....you never know what the weather has in store!! This week, and last, we have had lovely warm cloud free days, snow and floods (sometimes on the same day!) Makes the waterfalls look extra special πŸ₯°

Shhhhh......I think spring may be here!! I've seen oystercatchers for the last couple of weeks (very noisy down at Semerwater!!), this morning I spotted a couple of Lapwings and heard a Curlew!! The snowdrops are looking stunning too.....

We have an incredible murmuration of starlings happening just over our building at dusk - it has slowly built up from a small ball of starlings, to a pretty big group of them

We have space in the bunkhouse during the week - and some weekends, come and see what spring looks like in the Dales. Which will be out first - the ash or the oak? Are we in for a splash or a soak?

Bird pictures from the rspb website, snowdrops from the gardeners world website, video all my doing.

Did you know the Yorkshire Dales National Park is a Dark Skies Reserve? So as well as being stunning in the daylight, it is officially, also amazing in the dark!!! With the naked eye you can see the Milky Way, with a pair of binoculars you can just about see the moons of Saturn, with a telescope you can see soooooooo much - and this is from the park next door. When there are Aurora events, you can see them too. Go a bit further out of Hawes - up a hill or to 10 mins to Widdale/Raydale/Semerwater, then it is incredible.
The National Park runs some Dark Sky events - the next one is 24th Oct for a week, with the biggest events from 13th Feb for a week.
I love looking at the stars, and all the stories of the constellations - give me a cup of tea, my down jacket and a clear night.....I would be very happy!! I get quite excited by it all!!!
Place a booking this week (until 15th Oct) for 5 people, quote "Ganymede" in the bookings, and we will give you a star related gift.

I talk a lot about the walks/bike rides and swims around Hawes and Upper Wensleydale. But if you fancy doing something a bit different, a great place to visit not too far away, is Richmond. With its iconic Norman castle (with huge views from the top of the tower), lots of historic buildings (Georgian Theatre is the UK's oldest working theatre), cobbled market place and riverside views, it is worth a visit. It is also the original Richmond of more than 100 others across the world!!!

Starting on Friday 19th September the Richmond Walking and Book Festival begins - this is 10 days of book events and guided walks. Talks tend to be in and around Richmond, with the walks all over the various Dales, and further afield (a great way to explore other places!)

We have space in the Bunkhouse if you are interested in taking part in any of these events!

The website link for the festival is www.booksandboots.org.

What an amazing summer we have had here in the Dales, just enough rain to keep the waterfalls flowing (mainly) and the grass green, but so much sun to give everyone the chance to enjoy the great outdoors.
After swimming Ullswater at the start of August I've given swimming a bit of a break, and have tried to get out mountain biking - by myself and with our son, all from the front door - need ideas of what to do when you are here - let me know!! Photo is from the Pennine Way coming down from Ten Ends, looking into Hawes.....a bridleway so was "zooming" down on my bike
Did anyone see Countryfile last weekend? If you want to have a peek at our lovely area and get some inspiration, I have put the link below!

Looking for a fab way to spend a morning? We had the pleasure of taking Mr D'Arcy and Jester for a walk with , we fed them, learnt about them and generally loved them!!! Highly recommended 😁 We then had a spot of lunch and came back for playing and swimming in the lake. Perfect!
