Stone House Midwinter Sessions

Stone House Midwinter Sessions In January 2015, we welcomed the first event of its type to be held here at Stone House - "Stone House Midwinter Sessions".

Across the weekend of the 23rd & 24th January, we welcomed eight fantastic acts, all showcasing some of the finest talent that the North of England has to offer- and all handpicked by us! On the 22nd & 23rd January 2016, Stone House Midwinter Sessions will return once again to offer an excellent weekend of live music

The focus of these sessions is very much on a relaxed atmosphere with local food

, refreshing drinks, good company and fantastic music. We have aimed to focus primarily on acoustic musicians from around the North of England and on artists that are writers of original music. You will be lucky enough to hear their own compositions as well as a few covers along the way! A stand will be set up during the event containing CDs and other merchandise from the weekend's performers. Be sure to bring some spare change so that you can take the day's music home with you!

THE MOONBEAMS

Our penultimate artist announcement is a group who require no introduction to those of you already familiar with Stone House Midwinter Sessions! The legendary Yorkshire Dales folk artists return by popular demand to Stone House Hotel...

The Moonbeams make music rooted deep in the countryside, willingly tied to the landscape, alert to the changing seasons and sensitive to the creatures that share the environment with our complicated human hearts. Music that evokes the beauty of the landscape and lifestyle of the people. Music to listen to while dreaming and reflecting on the better things of life. They released their first album, ‘Sparrowhawk’s Eye in 2012, and their second album ‘Watching Wildlife’ was released in early 2015 and was chosen to be added to the list of the Telegraph’s top folk albums of the year.

After all, everyone knows that the Yorkshire Dales produce only the finest folk! 😉👍

CHLOE CHADWICK

Only one more day to go folks! So it's time to reveal tomorrow night's headline act... the fantastic Chloe Chadwick!

Chloë grew up in Staffordshire, but for the past few years has called the North East home, so much so that she's been dubbed “The Northern Country Queen”. In 2016 and 2017, she was nominated in the “Best Female Artist” & "Best UK Country Act" category at the UK Country Music Awards.

Chadwick has performed for 15 years, across the UK and Europe, honing her own distinctive blend of music which effortlessly blurs the boundaries between Americana, country and pop. She has played prestigious venues such as The Sage Gateshead, Dublin Castle Camden and Festivals such as SummerTyne, C2C, & Beverley Folk Festival where she has performed alongside such renowned acts as The Shires, Ward Thomas, Striking Matches, Gretchen Peters and Emmylou Harris, to name but a few.

Chloë has opened shows for a huge array of well known names; Sam Outlaw, Nell Bryden, Jeff Finlin, Tia McGraff and Nikki Lane, who have raved about her performances, and everywhere she has played she has attracted attention, leading to an appearance on HotDisc and countless radio performances, including assorted BBC stations.

2015 saw Chloë embark on a life changing journey across the pond to the States with Blue Pie Records, recording her self penned song 'Big River' alongside ace U.S producer Chris Garcia and his mixing partner Tom Polce. The song later became one of Chloë's favourites on her debut album. She also collaborated with the likes of Kevin Duppold and Canadian singer/songwriter Noble Taylor; together they wrote songs for emerging artists signed to the label.

In 2016, she returned to the UK and embarked on her first headline tour, in support of her highly acclaimed, self titled EP.

Compared to such performers as Melissa Etheridge, Chadwick has recently released her debut album, Dustbowl Jukebox, which is receiving rave reviews. As an emerging female country singer, her intense, powerful vocals, stunning production and stirring lyrics make this a CD which simply has to be heard. Dustbowl Jukebox was produced in the main at Cluny Studios by Tony Davis and mixed by Patrick Jordan. Every song finds its own identity, be it rooted in pop, rock, country, blues or soul, and together, they are testament indeed to the versatility of Chloe’s vocal capabilities, as she effortlessly takes us on a ten track musical journey. This is evidenced in the fact that it soared to the top 14 of the iTunes Country chart within days of its release.

It goes without saying that we can't wait to welcome Chloe to Stone House Hotel!

JOSH WESTWOOD

Once again, the Yorkshire Dales singer/songwriter/guitarist and founder of Stone House Midwinter Sessions returns to open the event, welcome the crowd and help everyone get settled in! Since a large tour of the UK in 2015, Josh has backed off from regular gigging due to other commitments, but still continues to play gigs around the North of England both as a solo artist and as part of a band.
Previously Josh has kept a busy schedule with plenty of shows across the UK, regular busking and airtime on BBC Music Introducing to his name. He is very much looking forward to hosting the 4rd annual Midwinter Sessions at Stone House Hotel and sharing the stage with yet another crop of fantastic artists!

THE ALICE CHARMERS

Any of you who attended our very first SHMS back in 2015 will recognise this lot! Middlesbrough's The Alice Charmers headlined the Saturday night back at the beginning of this festival's life, and they'll be back to do the same this time around!

The Alice Charmers are a group who have been playing and creating music together since Marathons, Opal fruits and Jif wandered the earth. A mix of Country, bluegrass and occasional
Cajun blended with a joy of performing make any time spent in their company a charming time to be had by all.

"The Alice Charmers are one of those groups, that regardless of your favorite musical style, cannot help to leave you feeling, just that little bit better about life.” Paul Burgum, BCT Inspire Events.

"If anyone thought Bluegrass and Country music could only come from the United States then The Alice Charmers exist to prove them wrong. Guaranteed entertainers and a unique piece of Boro's music!!!" Rikki Doolan CVFM.

"Absolutely brilliant." Boss Caine.

"Banjos, Beards, Bluegrass and Boro; The Alice Charmers bring the glorious sounds of the Deep South and add some spiky Teesside humor just for good measure. I challenge anyone, drunk or sober, young or old, able bodied or wheelchair bound, not to throw some shapes like a demented five year old, high on Rola-Cola." The Pi**ed Gig Attender, EXNE Online Magazine.

"Alice Charmers are the best raggle-taggle-fraggle-rocking, banjo beating bunch of boys or you will see for many a country mile. Infectious, stomping bluegrass beats and feel-good factor aplenty." Andrew Johnson, The Southmartins/Cherry Head, Cherry Heart.
