I’ve finally taken a few days away for myself, decided it was time to recharge my batteries and have a little downtime.

I’ve had Greg James book for a while and this was my opportunity. I CANNOT recommend it enough, it’s daft, the reading voice in my head is chaotic (exactly how it’s intended I’m sure) but it’s so poignant, heartfelt and full of great ideas.

The main thread of it (to me) is balance of life, not taking things too seriously, finding the things in life that bring you joy. It’s advice I definitely need to listen to.

So I want to know, what brings you joy?! (I want to steal some ideas)

Secondly I picked up Marry Shelly’s Frankenstein. Written over 200 years ago, by an 18 year old Mary off the back of a challenge set by Lord Byron.

I’ve always known the story of Frankenstein, or, at least I thought I did. It’s definitely not what I thought it was. Would 10/10 recommend.

Hi everybody 👋

After almost four years of welcoming guests to The Fold, I thought it was probably about time I introduced myself properly to all of you.

I’m Matt — visionary, builder, interior designer, marketing manager, guest liaison, accountant and, apparently, chief content creator too.

It’s been six years since the idea for The Fold first began to take shape, with one fairly ambitious goal: to create one of the best places to stay in the UK.

Since then, we’ve worked relentlessly to bring together sustainability and the highest levels of luxury, proving that choosing one should never mean compromising on the other.

Over the coming months, I’m going to try to share much more of what goes on behind the scenes at The Fold, the people who help make it what it is, and the incredible community we’re lucky enough to be part of.

But in the meantime, if there’s anything you’d like to know about us, The Fold, or what goes into creating and running this slightly crazy place, ask away in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer.

It occurs to me that we very rarely show The Fold as an entire site.

I forget that you don’t know that our 4 cabins are spread over 18 acres surrounded by meadows and woodland.

So if you really are searching for that escape that truly sets you in nature, you really don’t need to be anywhere else.

Tell me what true luxury means to you?

To me it's Time.
Time to laugh playing cards with a loved one, not watching netflix in silence
Time to take a bath with a glass of fizz without the doom scrolling
Time to spend an hour over breakfast when the only noise is birdsong
Time to just be.......... free.

I think people confuse luxury with consumption and excess, we've built The Fold to prove that it is the complete opposite.
