Could we ask our friends to share this post? We'll be sad to leave but it's time for us to go and for someone else to enjoy this magical place. Our cottage is also available next door.

OK, so we haven't had snow this good recently but you might get lucky.

Ninebanks Youth Hostel is up for sale and may close in 2026. In the meantime we don’t want to let anyone down so we’re taking bookings for just 3-4 months ahead.

The winter months are a great time to be in the North Pennines. Leave behind the cold grey slush of the cities and see if you’ll be lucky enough to be here in the snow. With full central heating and logburners in both hostel and chalet it’s a great place to come back to at the end of a day's walk and on a clear night you can see the Milky Way high above you.

To book sole use of the hostel call or email us to discuss your stay. If you want to bring smaller numbers we may be able to offer a lower price for fewer rooms and if you’d like to stay longer than 2 nights we can offer a discount for longer stays.

It's a bit blowy today but as the days grow a little longer we’re thinking about early spring breaks. We have family rooms, chalet rooms and hostel rooms available for the February half term weeks. Our specialist bed tester has checked all the beds and declared them very comfortable.

We've been following the spine race from our desk this week. What an amazing bunch of people. Every single person who steps over that start line is awesome. Some of the stories of what motivates these runners to keep on putting one foot in front of the other have had us in tears, cheering them on. If you haven't been dot watching, take a look
