Michill Cottage

Want to get away from it all but unsure? Michill Cottage is in a small village blessed with 6 pubs in close walking distance, plus cafes and restaurants. There is a general store, as well as the wonderful Peveril Stores and of course supermarkets will deliver.

Hope rail station is only 2.5 miles away and trains from Manchester and Sheffield are frequent, and there are also buses to and from from Sheffield and Bakewell.

What I am getting at is, don't sit at home thinking you'd like to go but are worried about fuel availability. Once you get to our lovely cottage, you won't need to use the car, so you can even come by train.

There is glorious walking country right on the doorstep, as well as the famous caves and caverns in and around the village. Come and see for yourself.

The beds are firm. We like firm beds, so do many of our guests, If you can't sleep on firm mattresses, perhaps Michill isn't for you. :-)

UPDATE: thank you people; we will look forward to welcoming guests who have now booked for Christmas and New Year. (Different guests, just to be clear!)

Just a few nights free in November and December - but 2026 awaits you.

We've welcomed lots of lovely guests and their dogs this year, but so far no-one has chosen the dates for Christmas and New Year. Sometimes the Agents' websites make it look as though it's not available, but I assure you, it is! Just message me if you are having a problem booking, and I will do what I can to help.

Just a five minute walk (less if you're a fast walker) from Michill Cottage and much less trouble than washing-up a frying pan!

Thank you A for your review. You tell us: "Great location. Lovely cottage. Easy for walks, pubs, cafes and general stores.
Very modern facilities, while keeping an cottagey feeling.
I have nothing to complain about, just a quick heads up... The property is a bit small, (that's just how it is). I was on my own, so this wasn't a problem, but I would say 2 adults and a child would be enough to fill it.
Also the bathroom is great, though the shower is a bit small. Nothing that can be done about that, but just something to consider.
These are very minor points, as everything else about the cottage is good."

We are glad you liked our cottage. Yes, it is small - even tiny, and I agree this is something people need to consider. Often we have hosted 4 adults and 3 dogs and they haven't complained: I guess it depends on several factors like how much time you want to spend in the cottage, how big and/or mobile you (and your dogs!) are and how happy you are in each other's space.

The shower is about 700mm square, a small but standard size. I would much rather people knew this before they booked, rather than complain about it later. There is just no room for anything bigger.

Oh booking.com don't we just love you! Thank you to all our Guests who have used booking.com to book a stay at Michill Cottage. And thank you too to the guests who have left a review or feedback. Unfortunately, because booking.com is NOT our agent, I am unable to respond. Where it seems it would be good to do so, I will do on this page. I will keep you anonymous.
And if you are thinking of making a booking, please just use cottages.com. The price is the same and they are far better to deal with.

Here we go again: if you like the look of our cottage, please either use cottages.com to make your booking or come to me direct. For some reason our cottage appears on a number of different websites, most of which (with the exception of Hoseasons) have the wrong information!
Don't let this put you off: just use me, or cottages.com. I am pretty sure the prices are the same, and if they are cheaper on some of the others, all I can say is that you may get what you pay for!

The snows of last week have drawn folk from far and wide: a 4-hour drive for some, just to see Mam Tor and walk, slide and slither a little or a lot.
At times like this, visitors to Michill Cottage have no need of a vehicle and can walk to join the crowds on the hills, or walk the couple of hundred yards into the heart of Castleton or strike off in the opposite direction where, in no time, you will have the hills to yourself.
And if you do get cold and wet, a hot shower and warm cottage await you.

If you need to get away from it all in the weeks before Christmas, we have most weekdays available next month up until 18th. Castleton is beautiful in December!

Please, please, please; if you are coming to our cottage, don't wait until the day of your stay to ring me to ask for the keybox code. I send everyone an email 2 weeks prior to their stay but booking.com (who are NOT our agents but whom our agents allow to make bookings on their behalf) will not forward my emails.

I am frequently out of phone range or have my phone switched off. I don't like to think of folk standing on the doorstep unable to get in.

Do you have a booking for Michill Cottage made through booking.com?

Because I am not always easy to get hold of, I always send guests an email, 2 weeks prior to their stay, but currently booking.com are refusing to forward these to their customers.
