ππ Autumn at Cherry Tree House and Wookey Flat in Somersetβ¦ and itβs c***r season! ππ
π If thereβs one thing Somerset is famous for, it has to be c***r! And autumn is a particularly special time to experience it. The orchards are busy, the apples are being harvested and pressed and our local c***r farms are at their liveliest. π
π If youβre coming to Somerset on holiday this autumn, why not make a c***r farm visit part of your trip? Itβs a wonderful way to see a little bit of the real Somerset, discover how c***r is made and, of course, enjoy a taste of the countyβs famous apple harvest. π
π Here are three local c***r makers to put on your listβ¦. π
π Thatchers C***r, Myrtle Farm, Sandford π
π A true Somerset family tradition. Thatchers has been making c***r at Myrtle Farm since 1904, and today you can visit the farm, explore the c***r-making story and book a guided tour around the working mill. Tours include a chance to learn how the c***r is made and sample some of their Somerset c***rs. Itβs particularly fascinating to visit at harvest time and see where those famous Somerset apples begin their journey. π
πRich's C***r, Watchfield π
πJust down the road and within walking distance, Richβs is a traditional, family-run Somerset c***r farm, established in 1954. Their c***r is made using locally harvested Somerset apples, and their farm is a lovely place to experience traditional c***r-making. They offer c***r tours and tastings, and in autumn you can see the apples being pressed. Thereβs also a farm shop, museum and restaurant serving locally produced food so you can easily make a proper Somerset day of it! π½οΈπ
π Wilkins Farmhouse C***r, Mudgley π
π For something wonderfully traditional and rustic, Roger Wilkins is a Somerset institution! At this working farm, c***r is made in the traditional farmhouse style, with the juice naturally fermented in wooden barrels. Visitors can call in to sample the c***r and browse local produce including Somerset cheeses. Itβs a very different experience from a large commercial c***r maker and thatβs exactly what makes it so special. π
π Autumn really is a wonderful time to discover Somerset c***r. The orchards, the smell of freshly pressed apples, the traditional farmhouses and, of course, a glass of local c***r make it an experience that shouldnβt be missed.. π
