🐅✨ A TRUE Holmfirth story… Fenella the Tiger

Fenella was a tame tigress who lived right here in Holmfirth during the 1940s 🏡
Raised by the Overend family (circus acrobats) after being brought from South Africa as a cub in 1939 🌍

She wasn’t feared — she was loved ❤️
Walked through town on a lead 🐾
Passed the local school like it was totally normal 🎒
And lived as part of everyday village life 😳

Gentle but never to be left alone (she’d howl if she was!) 🐅🎶
Fenella lived here until 1950, becoming a true local legend 🔥

🐅 Fenella's life is celebrated as a unique, charming piece of West Yorkshire history, where she and her keepers, the Overends, were well-regarded by the local community rather than feared.

📚 Her story lives on in books, plays, and at Holmfirth Library
