Pickpocket Hall Holiday Let

Pickpocket Hall Holiday Let Permanently Closed The house sits alongside Holywell Hunt Racecourse, founded by Lord Grosvenor, Lord Derby, Sir T Mostyn and other gentlemen.

The racecourse was an oval shape that covered 2 miles (1 furlong). The first race was held in 1769 and the last race was in 1852. The original farm house Bryn y Gwynt (rear of picture) was used as a gathering place for the gentry/owners. In 1831 a horse called pickpocket which was owned by Sir Richard Bulkeley was running, the owner of Bryn y Gwynt had a wager on Pickpocket and stated that if the

horse won, he would build a house with his winnings. Pickpocket did win that race and so the house was built (front of picture) and was known as Pickpocket Hall. The two houses were joined together at some point and a Victorian extension was added (single storey right of picture).
