The Little Daxie Hotel

The Little Daxie Hotel Caring, considerate and compassionate home boarding for Dachshunds. We all spoil our dogs don’t we? And of course we adore them they are our babies !

If like me you worry yourself sick about having to leave them to go away for the night or on holiday then please take time to read this;
We have three Miniature smooth Dachshunds in the house who we are totally devoted to and have planned the majority of our holidays around, so that we usually went to dog friendly holiday cottages in Cornwall only.. But the world is a big place and there are

so many fabulous places to see and we can’t take our little ones on the plane across the world on holiday can we? We solved the situation by paying a trusted family member to come and stay to look after the dogs and the house which is wonderful, but if you can’t do that then we can help you . Our beautiful home is open for business now as a 5* Dachshund Hotel as we love and understand the quirks of this breed. Our stone cottage is down a small farm track and we have CCTV cameras everywhere, we have over 3 acres of paddocks where we keep a flock of rare breed sheep. There are large gardens and a very secure area around the house where dogs can safely play out all day if they wish and come in and out of the house for quiet time. The kitchen is very large with a big log burner and a Rayburn for chilly days and lovely under floor heating to keep paws warm and snuggly and there are lovely clean dog beds and cushions in front of the fire. There is also another back kitchen which is super warm full of big squashy cushions for those who prefer quiet times. Walking , playing and quiet times in front of the TV on my knee are compulsory unless they prefer not too, we all have our little quirks and i understand them all completely. Dogs are not left alone for very long only when i pop up to the field and stables feed the sheep/ chickens / pigs and our elderly pony, i have a HND in animal welfare, fully local authority inspected, licensed and insured. Trial days are compulsory so that it’s not such a shock when they come to stay. Please call me for rates

Rawhides are still one of the most popular dog treats around. All dogs need to chew; it’s natural to them, it provides stimulation and can help relieve anxiety, however these might not be the best chew to give to your dog!
Firstly, whilst marketed often as an “all natural” dog treat, rawhide, is NOT raw, it’s not even particularly natural.
Rawhide is made mostly of cattle hides. To remove the hair it’s dipped in a chemical bath which “burns off” the hair- often a Lime solution. After this the hide gets washed and whitened in a bath of hydrogen peroxide (bleach). Then it will be covered in chemical preservatives, and at times colourings and flavourings. Besides this there are increasingly concerns about treats which contain meats from China as was reported by the Animal Health Trust.
The other dangers, apart from the toxic mix above, are that rawhides can present to your dog blockages - rawhide doesn’t get easily digested and can even swell up in the stomach. Large pieces can get stuck in the throat or stomach and cause choking. They are also known to give gastrointestinal upset to your dog.
