The Heart of High Street: Exploring Hythe Makers ( next to The Accuro Clinic & Church Mouse Studio Ltd.)

In the coastal market town of Hythe Makers collective that is currently defining the town’s creative soul.

Located at 112 High Street, Hythe Makers isn’t just a shop; it’s a living gallery and a testament to the talent tucked away in the corners of the South East coast.

A Collective Vision
Hythe Makers operates as a collaborative space where local artisans showcase their work under one roof. For the visitor, it offers a "treasure hunt" experience—every shelf and corner reveals something unique that hasn't been mass-produced in a factory.
The beauty of the collective is its diversity. On any given day, you might find:

• Jewellery: Handcrafted silver and enamelled pieces, such as those by renowned local maker Zoë Robyn.
• Textiles: Hand-woven items, felt work, and bespoke embroidery.
• Art & Prints: Contemporary illustrations and fine art capturing the moody beauty of the Kent coastline.
• Homeware: From hand-turned wood to artisanal ceramics and upcycled furniture.

Why It Matters
In an era of digital shopping, Hythe Makers provides something a screen cannot: connection. 1. Sustainable Shopping: Buying from the collective means a smaller carbon footprint. The items aren't shipped across oceans; they are often carried through the front door by the artists themselves.

2. Supporting the Local Economy: When you purchase a handmade card, the money goes directly back to a neighbor, helping to sustain the local arts community.

3. Unique Identity: The items found here are often one-of-a-kind. They tell a story of the person who made them and the town they were made in.

Beyond the Shop: The Market Scene
While the High Street shop is the permanent hub, the spirit of "making" spills out into the town through regular events.

• Hythe Farmers’ Market: Held on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month at the Methodist Church Hall. Here, the definition of "maker" expands to include gourmet food producers—think organic breads, local cheeses, and artisan preserves.

• Pop-up Events: Keep an eye on the Hythe Town Hall and Undercroft, which frequently hosts craft markets and seasonal fairs, especially during the summer and lead-up to Christmas.

Planning Your Visit
If you’re heading to Hythe to support the makers, here is what you need to know:

• Location: 112 High Street, Hythe, Kent, CT21 5LE.
• Hours: Generally open Tuesday through Saturday (10:00 AM – 5:00 PM), with many Sundays seeing the doors open from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

The Hythe Makers collective proves that you don't need a big-city gallery to find world-class talent. Sometimes, all you need is a historic High Street and a community that values the handmade.

A quarter-century in the heart of Hythe is no small feat! 🌊

It feels like only yesterday that Richard and Hilary first set up shop at 112A High Street, but Church Mouse Studio is officially celebrating 25 years as part of our community. While our High Street has seen shops come and go, their studio has remained a constant—a little hub of creativity and kindness tucked away right next to Hythe Makers and The Accuro Clinic, Church Mouse Studio Ltd.
Opposite Boots UK

Whether you’ve been a client for decades or you just enjoy seeing their friendly faces on your morning coffee run, Richard and Hilary have become a true staple of Hythe life.

Next time you’re wandering down the High Street, why not pop your head in at the studio to wish them a happy 25th? Here’s to many more years of local talent!

You never really clock how much you depend on Boots… until you pop in for one thing and somehow emerge with a full shopping bag you didn’t plan for 😄

“Just a quick stop,” you say… and suddenly you’ve got plasters, vitamins, toothpaste, lip balm, and three other things you’re not even sure you needed.

Life’s essentials, conveniently under one roof…
Except, of course, actual boots 👀😄

I’ve been a loyal customer for decades and I’ve honestly never had a bad experience — the staff are always amazing, helpful, and just genuinely lovely 👍
