Did you know that here at Otter Pool Barn in North Devon, we have a range of hoists available to help make your stay as accessible and comfortable as possible?

We have:

• Two mobile electric hoists which can be used around the property
• An XY ceiling track hoist in Bedroom 1, with the track continuing through into the ensuite
• A hoist for our hot tub/swim spa area, so more of our guests can enjoy the water too

We know how important it is to have the right equipment when planning an accessible holiday, which is why Otter Pool Barn has been designed with a wide range of accessibility needs in mind.

We sleep up to 12 guests, making us ideal for holidays with family, friends and carers.

**Mullacott Alpacas Farm Open Day – Sunday 30th August**

Looking for something to do in **North Devon this Bank Holiday weekend?**

Kate, the owner of Otter Pool Barn, also runs Mullacott Alpacas, and they’re holding their Farm Open Day on Sunday 30th August, 10.30am–3.30pm

Free entry and parking, with plenty going on throughout the day, including:

*Activities, games and talks
* Craft demonstrations and ‘have-a-go’ activities
* Hand feeding the alpacas (small charge for feed)
* And, of course, LOTS of alpacas!

Pizzas, ice creams and cakes will also be available.

There are activities under cover if the weather isn’t on our side, so don’t let a bit of rain put you off!

Entrances are on the A361, on the Ilfracombe side of Mullacott Cross roundabout.

♿ Accessible holidays at Otter Pool Barn, North Devon 🌿

At Otter Pool Barn, we want families, friends and carers to be able to enjoy a holiday together, which is why the property has been designed with accessibility at its heart.

🏡 Some of the accessible facilities and equipment we offer include:

🛏️ 6 accessible bedrooms, with two downstairs and four upstairs
• 4 electric profiling beds – two in the downstairs bedroom and two in separate upstairs bedrooms
• NEW Alerta Sensaflo-Hybrid Pressure Relief Mattress
• Classic Air Pressure Relief Mattress with OLA-4 controller also available, meaning we can accommodate two guests who require pressure-relieving/air mattresses

♿ Hoists & access
• XY ceiling track hoist in the downstairs bedroom
• Mobile electric hoists available
• Wheelchair lift for access between floors
• Wide sliding internal doors to help minimise obstructions
• Level flooring with low-glare, non-slip surfaces
• Flush external door thresholds for easier wheelchair access
Guests using the hoists will need to bring their own suitable slings.

🚿 Accessible bathing
• Large bathrooms with fully level-access showers
• Press-button showers with rain heads and hand sprays
• Shower seats available
• Lever-operated taps
• Grab handles
• Toilet seat raiser available
• Family bathroom bath suitable for use with a mobile hoist

💦 Accessible swim spa & hot tub
Our swim spa can be heated to suit individual needs and can also be used for hydrotherapy. It includes a sling/chair pool hoist with chair provided, helping guests who are unable to access the water independently. The linked hot tub can also be accessed from the pool via a removable partition.

🔌 Other thoughtful features
• Assistance call systems in bedrooms and bathrooms
• Additional easily accessible power sockets throughout the property
• Adjustable lighting, including dimmer switches and additional floor-standing lights
• Back-up power generator
• Specialist equipment, such as oxygen or mobility scooters, can be arranged for delivery directly to the property before your arrival

More specialist equipment now available at Otter Pool Barn

This year we’ve upgraded our pressure relief equipment with a new Alerta Sensaflo-Hybrid Pressure Relief Mattress, giving our guests even more choice and support during their stay.

The Alerta Sensaflo-Hybrid combines supportive foam with an air system to provide enhanced pressure relief. It is designed to offer both comfort and support for guests who may spend longer periods in bed or who are at increased risk of pressure damage.

And even better, we’ve kept our previous Classic Air Pressure Relief Mattress, with the OLA-4 controller, at the property too. This can be substituted for one of our other mattresses when required.

This means that Otter Pool Barn can now accommodate two guests who require pressure-relieving air mattresses at the same time – something we hope will make a real difference for families and groups travelling together where more than one person has additional care needs.

We’re always looking for ways to improve the specialist equipment available at Otter Pool Barn and make holidays that little bit easier, more comfortable and accessible for everyone.

🦦🎥 Ottis the Otter has got himself a brand-new drone! He was so excited that he wanted to show everyone his favourite walk—from the car park all the way down to the lake. 🌳💙

He's still getting the hang of being a drone pilot though... so if the flying is a little wobbly, you'll have to forgive him! 😄

With a bit more practice, Ottis reckons he'll be giving the professionals a run for their money. Until then, enjoy the scenic stroll and the occasional unexpected wobble! 🚁✨
