Day 1382.... or something maybe not quite as dramatic as that ;)

So this second room of the gunhouse used to be the sleeping quarters for up to 6 members of the queens home guard, believe it or not!!

Now my vision is to create a cinema room in here because the acoustics are INCREDIBLE

Oh come on!!!

After 3 months of baking sun it decides today is the day to start raining.

Please cross those fingers for me. I just need a few hours of dry weather this afternoon so I can get this membrane down then it can rain all it likes after that!

I wonder if 85 years ago there were members of the queens home guard sat in this exact place practising firing shells out of this window in preparation of what they feared was an imminent German invasion?

And here I now am trying to save it iand convert it into a luxury holiday let. Funny the journey life takes you on.

We had a very welcome visit today from former mayor of Ilminster, Leanne Taylor, who officially opened Oakwater Escapes at our opening ceremony in 2023 and has become a friend of the family ever since. It was great to show Leanne around the site to show her how its matured and also gives her a little sneak peak at our new project, the Gunhouse.

Its been a very busy week back so far as we have welcomed guests from abroad and at home and we have even had our first marriage proposal here at one of our lodges (to which I'm pleased, and relieved to say, was a very big YES!)

I guess the next one to cross off the list will be hosting our first wedding here ;)
