Legend has it that Dartmoor, in its splendid isolation, boasts the happiest population. The Danish language has a word 'hygge' which does not have a direct translation. The Dartmoor word is 'hooga' and the meaning is the same... (Ok, so we made some of this up but the sentiment is true!)
The Tinpickle & Rhum is bursting with 'hooga'. It is a really happy place. So what is 'hooga'? Its definition is being able to enjoy the good things in life with a sense of cosiness and well-being...
To revel in the life moments brimming with happiness, comfort, favourite things, loved ones and best friends, surrounded by good healthy food and intoxicating music in a harmonious landscape, full of light and shade...
It is lounging alone or in good company, with crackling fires & natural fragrance. Indulging in brushed cotton Jim Jams, a cashmere throw and alpaca bed socks with a slab of chocolate heaven and a good book - or write your own like Agatha Christie did when she stayed here! It is being brushed by a gorsey breeze at a huge sunset with smokey embers, fresh baked dishes from an outdoor oven and the anticipation of sharing dishes outside in a beautiful English garden - with such far reaching views which reveal a blue flag of sea against the horizon. The lumpen shadow of granite rock decorated with head torch stars dot the descent of climbers as they wend their way back from the dizzying height of majestic Haytor, a stones throw away from the welcome at 'base one - The Tinpickle!'
The Tinpickle & Rhum is a new Dartmoor Cafe / Brasserie located next door to the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre at the foot of Haytor Rock and within the grounds of the Historic Moorland Hotel. Dogs, Horses and Muddy Boots all welcome!
