I stumbled across The Agora in August of last year, slightly burnt out in desperate need of some R&R, I wanted a piece of luxury but did not wish to be surrounded by families children or all inclusive. Nothing too big more Boutique and personal. I decided to look to the mountains in Cyprus and a friend mentioned a boutique hotel in the village of Lefkara that had recently opened. Perfect! We often just think of Cyprus being beaches and big hotels so the thought of heading to the mountains with less humidity, green trees and blue skies plus the thought of wandering through the cobbled streets of the village early in the morning sounded perfect, and enjoying wonderful food and great wine in the evening.
WHAT A FIND 🤍 since August of last year The Agora Hotel in the beautiful village of Pano Lefkara Cyprus has become my sanctuary, my go to and my haven and having kept it to myself for six months through countless stays Summer, Winter and even Christmas where we opened our presents around the Tree I thought its about time to share. Pano Lefkara is a Unesco World Heritage traditional arts and crafts mountain village which takes you right to the heart of Cyprus. Complete with blue doored stone house, cobbled streets, leafy spectacular mountain and sea views.
The Agora once the village market and meeting place in the centre of the village is now a careful designed Boutique Luxury Hideaway purely for Adults.
Aleks and Emilie both originally from Denmark and with a background in hospitality stumbled across the abandoned hotel. They had been looking for a project, but what a project abandoned for 16 years they had a vision and a dream that they followed.
Their vision to create a space where not only is luxury redefined, but a space where time can stand still for couples and solos to relax . A place where the attention is in the detail, a place where every corner and nook is thought through and for your time there its a place you call home whilst all while the world's business is left at the beautiful entrance door.
The Agora Hotel opened just 3 years ago and in 2025 less than 3 years in was awarded its first Michelin Key. And I can see exactly why !
Now once again The Agora is the heart of the village, with its 18 individually designed rooms and suites - no two are alike all comfortably styled with vintage perfectly placed pieces all of which sourced by Emilie Co founder of The Agora, Creative and Interior Designer. Its lovingly unique and beautiful design and décor created by Emilie you can feel the thought, love and dedication that has brought it all together. All rooms and suites offer a simple grandeur of varying level all of which oozes comfort and attention to detail like no other SLH or Boutique Hotel.
A culmination of eras and design with calm earthy tones and a splash of colour thrown in which gives you the feeling of stepping into a another world, hints of 50's Miami or 60's St Tropez, maybe a French luxury mountain Ski Chalet or even popping into the Ritz for a glass of Champagne. There's even a hint of Soho House or the relaxed elegance of Chewton Glen there too. Its like all my favourite places rolled into one and together it just works! Chatting with Emilie her dedication to the style of The Agora shines through its style ever evolving. Her aim to always make it feel like home and when visiting many times you can see that pieces are moved, relocated and re-positioned just as you would in your own home, cushions are naturally plumped, books tidied and candles lit.
Novel is the wonderful restaurant of The Agora where coffee is included until 11am each morning and where the included a la carte breakfast and buffet is served. For lunch and dinner the menu has a Mediterranean twist with hints of dishes and influences from around the world. Produce is all locally sourced as is the house wine, which isn't the usual lets now look at the wine list house wine. This is pretty amazing, Domes Winery located in the village below Lefkara doesn't just produce great wine, it produces excellent wine which is hard to find as The Agora snap it all up. An extremely informative owner who personally takes care of the wine tasting experiences both at the winery and at the hotel.
Novel is featured in the Michelin guide and doesnt pretend to have Cypriot local authentic traditional food as that is something that is plentiful in Lefkara with its array of great tavernas and restaurants . Aleks and Emilie decided not to try and replicate the traditions of Cyprus, so Novel offers an alternative to the traditional Cypriot cuisine and this way encouraging guests to discover and dine outside of The Agora too.
What I love about The Agora is sooo much and too much to detail but the highlights, are : unlimited and superb coffee and fresh home made teas in the morning before 11am, lazy summer afternoons in the Courtyard by the pool, the carefully chosen music portfolio subtle in its presence yet creating an ambience and simply completing the scene. Jazz Evenings and Movie nights.
And once the sun goes down the Courtyard recreates the vibe with Live Jazz Evenings, Rumba Nights, On Screen Movie Classics.
Chatting with fellow and like minded guests or curling up on the sofa in the bar in the evening with a glass of French Red with my head in my favourite book.
And The Agora Ball the glitch and glam all rolled into one.
Hardest thing about The Agora; The Ayurvedic Wellness Menu and choosing which treatment option to take. Making your Menu choice at Novel and sticking to it, Ragu, Spicy Pep Pizza, Ribeye, The Agora Burger and Lobster Linguine.
And saying Goodbye at the end of each stay...
