We bought Marian as we loved the Yorkshire Dales and wanted to spend our holidays here. We’ve had amazing holidays here, so much so that we permanently moved our main home to the Dales! Today our cottage passes over to a new family who will continue to love Marian cottage and rent it out as a holiday let when they are not having a holiday here.

Rest assured that all bookings this year are going ahead as planned and excitingly Marian cottage is getting an upgrade with a lot of new furnishings on your arrival.

We are keeping this page up until the new owners have the time to set up their page. We will shortly change over the contact details in case you would like to book directly with them. All previous ways of booking remain open.

We have been liaising with the new owners over several months to ensure all runs smoothly. They are putting a lot of effort in to get everything ready for their first guests and we have no doubt that guests will be well looked after going forward.

We want to thank everyone so much for the support and kind comments over our time running Marian cottage. We will provide a link to the new Facebook site once this is set up so that you can continue to follow developments at Marian.

Thank you,

Cath and Steve

We’ve just spent a few days enjoying ourselves from the cottage. On top of our usual favourite activity of walking our dog Milo on lots of local walking routes, here is what we got up to:

We started our break with an amazing afternoon (despite some rain) doing a half day family friendly outdoor climbing through SAAIG Outdoors. We drove to Dale’s lodge (about 5 min drive from the cottage) to get kitted out before heading to a nearby crag for the afternoon. We thoroughly recommend and will look to book again next time we visit. I wished I had joined in myself and will next time. This was followed by amazing Fish and Chips Ingleton Chippy. They have a great gluten free menu so I was very happy.

The next day we picked up a gluten free sausage roll from Pen’s Pantry in the village before stopping at Booths in Kirkby Lonsdale to up the rest of our picnic on our way to Ambleside for the day. Had a lovely time wandering about and paddle boarding on Windermere.

Kids enthusiasm for all things climbing after our outdoor afternoon, meant we booked into an extra long taster session at KendalWall, Lakeland Climbing Centre on our third day. This time I joined the kids and confirm 90mins was more than enough for me! Great activity for a rainy day. We treated ourselves to a takeout curry from Spice Essence in Kirkby Lonsdale after all that effort.

Our last morning was spent with a 9am session at Ingleton Outdoor Swimming Pool and we had the pool to ourselves for the first 15 minutes before having a late breakfast Bernies of Ingleton. They are dog friendly and can cater for gluten free as well as lots of vegetarian options.

We popped into the Chapel Gallery in Hawes on route to Ingleton today and picked up two lovely prints. One of Ingleborough and the limestone pavements and the other of a moonlit Ribblehead. Great places for walks when staying in Ingleton! These are to be put up at the cottage as soon as we get them framed.

We’re ready for winter with new double glazing throughout to compliment the cozy warm feeling of an Aga and a log fire 🔥. Also caught the Tornedo passing over ribblehead viaduct during a bike ride 🚴

After a fantastic six months of running Marian Cottage, we are busy this week carrying out updates to make Marian winter ready and cosy for our guests. New double glazed windows are getting fitted today and tomorrow. The shower room will be getting some TLC as well as some decorating and routine maintenance. Can’t wait to see our new look windows in place!
