One of the things I love about October…

it gets dark earlier. ✨

Which means you don't have to stay up ridiculously late to look up and see the stars.

We're very lucky to be in the Yorkshire Dales International Dark Sky Reserve, with some of the darkest skies in the country.

And later this month, the Dark Skies Fringe Festival is coming to the Dales, running from 23 October to 1 November. There are all sorts of ways to get out and enjoy the night sky.

Here at Meadow Falls, we're doing our bit to let the stars have centre stage.

And because walking around in the dark is slightly less appealing when you can't see where your feet are going… we'll have red torches available for guests too. ❤️

So pack your warmest layers, make yourself a hot drink and don't forget to look up.

The sky might just be the most magical bit of October.

Sometimes a good October half term day doesn't need much planning.

A walk.

A bit of fresh air.

A cartwheel when the mood takes you. 😂

Something tasty to eat.

Back to the pod for a brew.

And plenty of space to just be.

No packed itinerary.

No need to keep everyone entertained every minute.

Just time together, doing whatever takes your fancy.

That's sounding like a pretty good half term to me. 🍂

There's cheese… and then there's cheese you can walk to from Meadow Falls. 🧀

The Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival starts today and Country Harvest are getting involved with:

🧀 Cheese tastings at the deli counter
🥐 Special cheese scones in the Coffee Shop
🛍️ Plenty of lovely local produce to take home too

And the best bit?

It's just a stroll down the road from us.

So if you're staying at Meadow Falls this weekend, you've got a rather good excuse for a lunchtime wander.

A little exploring.

A little cheese tasting.

Maybe a coffee and a cheese scone.

Then back to Meadow Falls for an afternoon of doing absolutely whatever you fancy.

Now that's my kind of October day. 🍂

You know you've properly arrived when...

the boots are by the door,

the coats are hanging up,

someone's left a book on the table,

and there's a map covered in places you might go tomorrow.

The coffee's on.

The bags are mostly unpacked.

And nobody's quite sure what time they're going to get up.

That's the bit I love about getting away.

You stop thinking about what you should be doing next.

You just settle in.

And October is a rather good month for that. 🍂

Some days you just need to put your boots on and head out.

No big plan.

No need to tick off every viewpoint or squeeze every mile possible into the day.

Just a good walk, some fresh air and a bit of space to clear your head.

And October is rather good for that.

The Dales are still here.

The views are still here.

You just get a little more breathing room to enjoy them.

Then you can head back to Meadow Falls, put the kettle on and relax.

pack the tent away and leave all the faff at home.

Come glamping instead.

Coffee in hand.

Feet up.

Go for a walk when you fancy it, come back when you don't.

Bring some food, or eat out.

No packed schedule, No rushing.

Just a proper little reset.

Our first ever October season is now underway, with weekends and October half term available.

Autumn camping doesn't have to be hard work. ❤️

One of my favourite things about Meadow Falls is finding these little messages from our guests.

A thank you.

A work of art.

A family doodle.

Paw prints.

We've got quite a collection now, and we absolutely love finding them. ❤️

We put a lot of thought into the big things here at Meadow Falls… the pods, the facilities, the pitches, the little details, always wondering if we've got it right.

But then someone leaves a few words on a chalkboard and reminds you that it's the people who stay here that make the place what it is.

So, if you've stayed with us and left one of these behind…

POV: You booked a camping trip in October and discovered all your favourite things...

There's the Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival from 9–18 October, with loads of local businesses getting involved.

We're especially lucky to have the Wensleydale Creamery not too far away. It's one of those local things we probably take for granted because it's always been there… but Yorkshire Wensleydale is rather special. And yes, Wallace & Gromit agree. 😂

Country Harvest are getting involved too, and we're already thinking about how much cheese we could realistically bring home.

Then later in the month it's time to look up, with the Dark Skies Fringe Festival running from 23 October–1 November. ✨

And somewhere in between all that, we're thinking a firepit cheese fondue might be worth experimenting with…

Purely in the name of research, of course. 😉

There are loads more things happening across the Dales.
You don't have to do everything.

Pick a day out. Find something delicious. Go for a walk. Come back to the firepit. Look at the stars.

Or do absolutely none of it - The choice is always yours.

and then knowing you've got somewhere cosy to come back to.

Boots off.

Hot shower.

Something easy for tea.

A firepit if you're still feeling adventurous.

Or…

just shut the door, get cosy and do absolutely nothing.

October might be about getting out and exploring the Dales.

But I think the evenings might be my favourite bit. 🍂
